Imagine how lucky you are to be able to just go outside without the strange looks, without the suspicious looks, without anyone clutching their bags as you come near and without getting killed. Racism is not a good thing, but it can be stopped with the right people listening. You know why this is still happening even though it’s 2020? Because the world leaders aren’t truly listening, they let our protests go through one ear and the other. They’re the ones who are capable of changing things, but they’re not using their power- they’re not doing anything. But if they use their power, it’s not to be alongside the black people, but to be against them. People just don’t understand but you need to understand, don’t just shrug your shoulders like you don’t care, when you should care. What if it was you?
Put yourself in a black person’s shoes. You’re just driving home, you’re going at the right speed, you’re following all the traffic laws but then these red and blue lights appear in your rear view mirror. You don’t have a clue about what you did. The white cop pulls you over, walks to your window clutching the gun by their side. They order you to, “step out of the car, put your hands on the car, where we can see ‘em.” They ask for your registration, you put your hands in your pocket to get it. BOOM, you got shot. You want to know why you got shot? Racism. That one word, yet it doesn’t fully describe the pain. What if you were, I don’t know, white?
You’re driving home, you accidentally drive past a red light. There’s a cop on the side of the road, they clearly saw that you did that but they do nothing, they see your face but they stay silent. You know why? Because you’re white.
You don’t even notice it, but there is SO much racial discrimination. Society claims that things have changed, but what has changed? There’s still slavery, murder, “looks”, job loss and unfair disadvantages. Just because you’re black or just not white. But think about it, what if it was the other way around? Just think about it.
All of us need to unite and work together, not against each other. I just think that racism is such a silly thing, why does the color of our skin define who we are as a person? White people are not better, black people are not any less than them, we’re all equal and we all make mistakes, we all do good things, our race does not decide that. Work together and help stop the murders of black people. BLACK LIVES MATTER.
