#day82 of #100daysofpractice - an amazing night, truly #gershwinning 💙🌟💙 @kafeeny played up a storm during #rhapsodyinblue, Laura wove a poem on flute, and our conductor got the whole audience to close their eyes during the #adagioforstrings as the intention is to reach down into your soul and take hold of it. I was concerned about this concert because I had missed a few out of the 4 rehearsals but #westsidestory came together with only a few wobbles. Especially impressed with Abner who did the clarinet "profane solo" in Gershwin - having come from a house where clarinet lessons were part of the background noise I was on the edge of my seat for that solo 😰 high as a kite afterwards drumming and whistling out the rhythms, I'm sure it was a nightmare 😂 standing ovation well deserved for the soloists 🌹🌹🌹 and flowers and treats too! A letter from George Gershwin to his mother. "A funny thing happened yesterday which made me feel very joyful and in the moment very happy I came here. The boat was in the dock at Southampton, and everyone was in line with their passports and landing cards. When I handed my passport to one of the men at a Table he read it, looked up and said, "George Gershwin, writer of Swanee?" It took me off my feet for a second. It was so unexpected, you know. Of course I agreed I was the composer and then he asked what I was writing now, etc. etc. I couldn't ask for a more pleasant entry into a country. When I reached the shore a woman reporter came up to me and asked for a few words. I felt like I was kind of somebody."
