Apparently so! I remember reading it once on a YouTube comment from a clip of the scene. I haven't been able to find a proper source for it, but the story is sprinkled all around the internet. According to the story, it was once mentioned by Gibby's actor that they actually added in the comment about 'did you hear my ribs crack'? as a nudge to the fact that the stunt double actually did break a few ribs when he hit the ground.

Whether it's totally true, I'm not sure, but if you look at the clip it does very much look like a real person who certainly seems to accidentally take the brunt of the fall directly on their chest. Ouch! 😬
