anne lister was a WOMAN. she called herself a woman. she calls herself a woman in the show, several times. stop erasing butch lesbians. we are women. accept our womanhood. we are screaming from the rooftops not to constantly misgender us, and look what you and your misogyny are doing. THAT is neither "kind" nor "gentle". whats your problem with butches? you REALLY think we're failing womanhood, you really dare disrespect our words like that? wow.
Ahah.
Interesting. I have an angry anon.
Well friend, since the world is a place of development and new thoughts, perhaps if you took into consideration how I not once disregarded you as a person. But since you clearly assume this was an assault on your gender and people, I would like to remind you that they did not have the term nonbinary in the lexicon of 200+ years ago. Anne Lister is a gender non conforming lesbian. I believe it's okay to challenge and process the notion that gender is a spectrum and that we as a developing species can and will explore it.
If you knew me as a person outside of the singular theory you've made of me, you would possibly take pause in calling me a misogynist due to the fact that I am an obstetrics nurse that fights daily for the rights of women in very intimate situations. I respect their wishes, cultures, pronouns, gender roles regardless of the standards of birthing people. You assume I am downplaying butch lesbians, and erasing people, however I am shoved into a box as a one when I DONT identify in that way. And it's frustrating.
So apologies if I'm stoked seeing a gender non conforming lesbian in the 1800s, in pursuit of healthcare knowledge as an influence to the beginnings of the discussion of what nonbinary can mean. I do love my feminine parts, but often view myself as masculine enough to challenge the gender.
Never said I wouldn't accept your womanhood or that you were failing it. Not erasing you, just looking at in a different light. Put the torches away fam, not trying to start fires here. Just excited to see a new story perspective.
