Squabbits (A.C. Newman has a new solo LP)
All right! The newest (2009) release from A.C. Newman is a lot of fun. This was of course to be expected from The New Pornographers headman and star-crooner Carl Newman. This is the title track from Get Guilty (Matador Records). Check it.

30) "There Are Maybe Ten or Twelve" - A.C. Newman
For me, A.C. Newman represents the quintessential "college discovery" band. I first heard the song when it played during the season 4 finale of How I Met Your Mother. I enjoyed the song and looked it up to learn the artist, but I left it at that for the moment. A short time later, an upperclassman whose musical tastes I respected made a few remarks about A.C. Newman, so I figured I should check him out. Needless to say, I was hooked. The following year, a coworker and I did a music swap and I got my hands on most of his work with The New Pornographers. I've been a fan ever since. I chose "There Are Maybe Ten or Twelve" for this list because the last verse of the song really spoke to me at the time regarding a former relationship that had fallen apart.
Enjoy.
Who said that love songs need to be soppy ballads? I think this is a beautiful love song and that is all that matters.
