The Secret Diary of a Teenage Spy: April 19, 2019
My mom let me stay this week.
It’s Holy Week, the time between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday in the Christian tradition. During this week, my family stays home. We meditate, listen to music, read, and pray. This tradition started when I was little. My mom was always going on last minute missions to Europe and wanted to spend more time with me. So, she decided that in honor of her religion, she would stay home for one week each year. Holy Week.
I always enjoy this time with Mom and Dad, but this year I’m even more grateful. After comparing Christian’s voice to the suspect’s for the better part of an hour, I ran a background check on Christian. The background check hasn’t come back yet, but I already feel so stupid. I’m a spy! I should have run a background check on Christian the moment he asked me out!
Mom has been thinking about taking a hard-core mission somewhere in Europe. I’ve been begging her to take the mission and take me with her. We make a great mother-daughter team and with all the new revelation about Christian, I could use a get-away.
Christian is the first guy to ask me out, the guy I’ve ever been on a date with, and my first boyfriend. I don’t want to add “first mass murderer I ever caught” to that list. I know I need to collect more evidence and turn Christian in, but I still see good in him. How can you hate a boy and love him at the same time?
