At Colledge We Maximize Student Potential
Parents often ask me about our process — which aspects of college planning we focus on, how our methods differ from others, and what kinds of students do well with us. Because of our team approach, we are able to support a wide range of students. Consider Gavin and Carlos, for example.
Gavin, a jazz drummer, wanted a nurturing, rigorous music program. Carlos loved chemistry labs, math and physics, and had just discovered he wanted to major in engineering. With both young men — as with the rest of our unique and wonderful students — we helped them figure out how to turn their talents and passions into great college opportunities.
All students possess inherent qualities and strengths. Many high school students do not recognize these special traits, and those who do often need guidance on how to effectively present their unique qualities to colleges. With this in mind, our Colledge team provides every client with a robust strategy to reach their goals. With expertise in college admissions, essay coaching, teaching, or personality assessments, they share a knack for helping students think about developing their interests and curiosities in a deeper way so they can meet their college goals.
One of our team members, Arman, helped Gavin find a handful of jazz studies programs with faculty that would both encourage and challenge his drumming. As a result, Gavin chose to attend Cal State Long Beach instead of Berkelee College of Music, and is thrilled to have found a program that offers him everything he wanted. Arman’s colleague James coached Carlos with writing assignments that captured his jubilance about science labs. Carlos wrote with great confidence, and will attend USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering as a President’s scholar.
Arman, James and our other team members are in tune with student needs and family dynamics and relish the chance to usher students through the college admissions process. Click HERE to learn more about all of them.
During regular team meetings, we work together to facilitate foundational changes in each young person’s life — with college choices, career possibilities, self-discovery, and life purpose.

From one of our clients:
"Just letting you know that I received $250 from you last week and wanted to thank you not just for that but for all the help and guidance you are giving to our kids in this process. Needless to say, we will continue to spread the the word about the good work you do and try to refer as many as we can."

"Your College Shouldn’t Be Bigger Than Your High School.”
Small colleges are actually more conducive to self-exploration than their larger counterparts where students have a hard time finding their way through the system, let alone finding themselves. Small colleges, with familial communities, do more to establish diversity and expose their students to something new -- something that encourages introspection. Bigger isn’t necessarily better in terms of what a college or university has to offer.
Who are these smaller Gatekeeper Colleges?

Update: You Don't Want to be Replaced by a Computer!
Jerry Kaplan, a Fellow at the Stanford Center for Legal Informatics, recently released his latest book titled Humans Need Not Apply: A Guide to Wealth and Work in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
A shocking observation revealed that 45% of American jobs are at high risk of being replaced by computers within the next two decades.
On July 1, 2015, we posted a blog titled “You Don’t Want to be Replaced by a Computer!” It seems we were on the money with the opinion that students need to be prepared as entrepreneurs in their learned fields. There are some colleges already tackling this challenge of properly preparing their students.
We would encourage you to go back and reread the post: You Don't Want to be Replaced by a Computer to learn more about how essential it is to be prepared for, and mindful of, the increasingly tech-dominated and global stage. (July 1, 2015)
Again, let us show you the colleges that are teaching this philosophy to their students.

The 20 Year Morph
Wow, things have sure changed over the last 20 years.
Back in the day, we used to do workshops and use Global Workplace offices in various cities. I remember running home to Saratoga to be able to do a Saturday workshop and see people the following week at our Techmart Global Workplace offices in Santa Clara. We wanted that personal touch with our clients.
Today, because of time management, increased traffic, and the use of computer advances, clients no longer need to travel to our offices. Their commute is no farther than their phone and their computer. Our clients now have access 24/7 within a minute's notice. They can be on the phone and computer with Lana and Jacquie (our essayist) accessing everything -- their college applications, essays, college lists. Thanks to phones, computers, Skype, Google Drive, etc., we now have a much easier time working with our clients in real-time!
Technology has definitely fine tuned our consulting process!

Filling the Seats
Colleges discount tuition to satisfy their own needs to lure the kind of students who raise their stature in the US News and World Report rankings, to round out a basketball team or orchestra, or simply to even out an imbalance between men and women. Small regional colleges cut prices to fill their empty seats. And increasingly, wealthier students are getting bigger discounts, poorer students smaller discounts. Which colleges give discounts?
