He laid upon his back in an open field as the wind gently caressed his cheek, the sounds of the wildlife singing from every direction. He wasn’t foolish to believe that they sang for him, but who couldn’t imagine that they did just that, especially at such a young age. Thandiroq was just a child, no more than 10 years of age with a mind full of wonder and a heart equally filled with joy. Orcs, trolls and demons were but bedtime stories and idle threats his parents would tell him. He was out on a hunt, more a forage, for food to bring back to his mother. The night before he dreamt of hunting, tracking and capturing a rabbit or if he was lucky to find the trail, a wild deer. To his dismay, but not complete sadness, he had only acquired some wild berries and nuts. The day was growing late, and clouds began to form in the sky. Thandiroq was on his way home when he found the clearing and stopped for a brief moment take in the wonders of the land. “I should be heading home now.” Then the rain began to fall from above, sprinkles at first, a few drops here and there, finally the downpour erupted. Thandiroq continued to lie in the field, the song of the wild all but gone, taken over by the sound of the rain falling upon the earth and himself. A smile crept onto his face, followed by a chuckle and his right eyebrow arching high on his face. Slowly he raised a hand towards the sky as if reaching for the clouds themselves. “I really should be heading home now.” He continued to chuckle and smile as he let his hand fall back to the ground and he let out a sigh. “They’re waiting for me. I hope they aren’t worrying.”
So many years from that day, in a land so far from, yet so familiar to the one he grew up in, Thandiroq sat in an open field surrounded by trees. Such as that day, he could hear the songs of nature singing for him, so he imagined, and it warmed his spirit. His head raised up to the sky, his eyes closed as he let the sunlight fall upon him and he cracked a smile. His ears twitched as he heard footsteps approaching from the distance, he was not worried, not here in this place of peace and serene beauty. Even here though he heard the familiar words in his mind. “I really should be heading for home now, they’re waiting for me. I hope they aren’t worrying.” A familiar scent reached Thandiroq’s nose, preceding the arrival of the approaching individual. Thandiroq turned his head back and opened an eye to see the approaching Dragon, his guide, teacher, guardian. “Is it time, Hypnosus? I’d hate to miss the rest of the symphony that is playing, but it will be here when I return.” Thandiroq rose from his seated position to stand before Hypnosus, prepared for the lesson that he was about to receive. Home can wait. For now.

Other than achieving a Number One hit single we offer you nothing else. There will be no endless wealth. Fame will flicker and fade and sex will still be a problem. What was once yours for a few days will now enter the public domain. In parts of this manual we will patronise you. In others we will cheat you. We will lie to you but we will lie to ourselves as well. You will, however, see through our lies and grasp the shining truth within. We will trap ourselves in our own pretensions. Our insights will be shot through with distort rays and we will revel in our own inconsistencies. If parts get too boring just fast forward – all the way to the end if need be.

It's not that the world around you isn't there. It's there, but you've never lived there. You've never even been there for a visit. The only place you've ever been is inside your mind.
