Comfortember Day 26
Getting Sleep
Spoiler: This is an excerpt from Candlelight
“You should rest,” Obi-Wan says at last, “I heard you haven’t been, in a while.”
“There are other, more pressing matters to attend to,” Anakin replies flatly. “We must stop Sidious before this becomes too… dangerous.” And it’s getting worse every moment – the longer it is, the more likely it is his former master will figure out something is wrong. He definitely knows something is wrong, but Anakin can only hope he won’t act on it or… that their plans will somehow carry through.
He's not certain, but he can only trust the Force that it will – somehow – work.
“Over your own health?” Obi-Wan asks dubiously, “You can’t defeat Sidious if you…”
Anakin makes a noise that well conveys his irritation. “I cannot sleep, Master. I dream most of the time, and…”
“Like your nightmare about… what I did to you?” he asks.
“Sometimes worse, but yes. Often.”
“I think,” Obi-Wan says finally, “I would like to know what Sidious did to you, sometime.”
“It does not matter,” Anakin replies roughly. He doesn’t want to talk about it either – the mere thought of voicing what Sidious put him through sends a raw, blinding fear shooting through him. He doesn’t know how he could begin to explain the sheer horror of everything he went through even if he tried.
“I will stay here,” Obi-Wan says, squeezing his hand one more time and pulling away.
He makes a sound of acknowledgement – nodding would probably hurt more, and he twists slightly onto his side, closing his eyes again. He is tired, but it’s not always easy to sleep anyway. He didn’t know it was possible to forget how to sleep, but it almost feels as if he has.
He… does feel slightly better if Obi-Wan is here, though he’s not fully sure what to think of his former master. A lot happened between them, nothing he can forget, and they have a long way to go to reforge something. He… doesn’t think it sounds hard, but for all he knows it could be wishful thinking. It usually is.
