A Better Me: Two Years In
I started this whole journey towards losing weight and getting back into shape in the fall of 2017 at age 48. I quit drinking and started eating less and eating healthier in January 2018.
It hasn’t been easy. I’ve had setbacks, most notably tearing the meniscus in one knee, going through surgery and rehab. But I’ve kept going. The hot wife, my friends, and family have been a great support network along the way.
Right now, I’m back down to the weight/size I was in 2005, but I’m a lot stronger and healthier now than I was then.
The benefits thus far, to name a few:
More self-confidence
Feel sexier
No longer pre-diabetic
No more constant pain in my feet
I don’t roll my ankles just walking down the street
Lost 4” around my waist
My wedding ring fits on my left ring finger again
Stronger
Healthier in general
Happier
I’m not where I want to be: I have goals and will keep pushing to meet them. If I can do this, so can you.
Losing Weight, Getting in Shape
Part of my evolution towards dapper butch is losing fat and getting back into shape. I’m not trying to reclaim my lost youth: it’s about being healthier as I move towards (ugh) middle age.
I've lost around 20 lbs over the past 10 months. It's been a journey.
How? By altering what I eat (no crazy diets, just less carbs and more veggies/fruit), eating less with each meal and having small, healthy snacks through the day, quitting alcohol (yup, forever), going to the gym regularly, and exercising on weekends. It's that simple, but it's not easy. It takes dedication and perseverance. And yeah, I still eat junk sometimes - but it’s an occasional thing, not an everyday habit. (The key to success there is to not buy junk food.)
I've lost two inches around my waist, I'm stronger (seriously, check out my "guns" sometime), and I feel a lot a better physically and mentally.
Easy? No. Worth it? Yes.
If I can do it, so can you.

felt so much better than yesterday's run! at least my legs were nowhere as tired, my pacing was quicker, most importantly I actually wanted to go beyond my original goal of 21 minutes.
