Social Signals be like OMG!! 🚦 STOP!!!
Yes, Tallulah, I love you and your ears, but the point of the #readathon is to read. #readingbuddy #gettingitwrong
GETTING IT WRONG - Fucking up is a bitter pill to swallow, especially when you've put your heart and soul into something you love. But that's exactly what happened during our Red Belt Kata on test day. I felt totally connected and in tune with my team as we danced the Kata, and then something slipped; attention - focus - nerves, I'm not sure which but it evidently showed as we were asked to stop. Having kept my emotions in line for the whole day, this moment of constructive criticism from @cameronshayne sent me into a limbic state of panic and a return to my 5 year old self, and all I heard was I was "bad"....that our Kata was terrible. I completely shut off being told how we had smashed the first 3 sections. That they were so good that was why section 4 had showed up. We were asked to stop another two more times before finally getting to the end, where I cried my bloody eyes out! But as I look back, I am full of gratitude for being pulled on not being my best, for those hard words of truth being spoken, because that kick up the arse brought me back to the present moment and my lack of potential. Yes it hurt but I learnt just how much more I had to offer and what I was capable of, and that getting it wrong shows you how to truly get it right. #abiadamsmixedmovementartist #budokonfamily #BudokonBeast #redbeltkata @budokonuniversity #gettingitwrong #mindscience #energy #expression #yoga #martialarts #mobility #animallocomotion

Actually, people with blue eyes are descended from the Barbarians of the Ancient world, all stemming from the Fount of Nations in North Western Europe. They burned and pillaged their way across europe, dismantling the Western Roman Empire piece by piece, and throwing the Western World into the Dark Ages. Think Ancient Anarchist Biker Gang. But hey, don't let a little history get in the way of a good meme...
Still Getting it Wrong
Yesterday, Human Rights Watch issued a 29-page report on Hungary entitled, "Wrong Direction on Rights: Assessing the Impact of Hungary's New Constitution and Laws." What a piece of work this is!
"The Hungarian government," writes the author, Lydia Gall, "accuses all its critics of bias, politically motivated criticism, or factual error." A propos...
If you're interested in a good example of a biased pamphlet posing as serious analysis, have a look at this HRW report. I've written previously about the problems with HRW's reporting -- see "An Open Letter to Lydia Gall, Human Rights Watch" and "Getting It Wrong: Problems with the Human Rights Watch Report" -- and their selective use of facts. It's a problem with this latest one as well. But it's more than that.
This is all old news, arguments and criticism that the Parliament and the Orbán Government have already answered. Yet the author does not treat the government responses.
How on earth can Human Rights Watch present this as a serious report when it so thoroughly omits the Hungarian government and parliament's responses to these issues? HRW does not have to agree with us, of course, but to ignore the other side of the debate is not acceptable.
As I've said, works like this, so lacking as they are in objectivity and full of statements more reminiscent of political sloganry, cannot be treated seriously.
…This, the article says, with some authority, makes Isabel “Africa’s first woman billionaire”. (Strange use of “woman” rather than “female”, by the way. Would you say “Africa’s first man billionaire, or do we assume all African billionaires are men, unless otherwise indicated?)…
The fact remains that getting people right is not what living is all about anyway. It's getting them wrong that is living, getting them wrong and wrong and wrong and then, on careful reconsideration, getting them wrong again. That's how we know we're alive: we're wrong.
