Together we can STOP Child Labour! 🛑✋

Child labour is a violation of human rights and can have detrimental effects on the physical, mental, spiritual, moral, or social development of children.

It often involves long hours, dangerous working conditions, and little or no pay. Children who are forced to work like slaves and often denied the opportunity to attend school and receive an education, which can lead to a lifetime of poverty and hardship. 🏫

Child labour can also perpetuate the cycle of poverty and social inequality. Therefore, it is important to stop child labour to protect children and promote their well-being.

Note: All work done by children under the age of 15 and dangerous work done by children under the age of 18 is illegal.

Child labour exists because: ⇾ People accept it and often invent excuses for it. ⇾ Children’s rights are not accepted. Governments fail to provide compulsory, free, and accessible education. ⇾ International agreements and conventions are ignored. ⇾ The education system fails to include poor and vulnerable children. ⇾ Companies worldwide demand cheap labour. ⇾ Countries can benefit from cheap labour. ⇾ Children are a soft target for a helping hand. ⇾ We have not done enough to stop it.

Artists and Scholars Sound Alarm on Far-Right Israeli Extremists in Lydda!

Over a thousand, including scholars Judith Butler and Angela Davis, have signed a statement in solidarity with the Palestinian city of Lydda in the wake of mounting racist violence.

Over 1,000 cultural figures have signed a statement in solidarity with the community of Lydda, a Palestinian city south of Tel Aviv increasingly threatened by racist Israeli extremists. Artists Molly Crabapple and Rehab Nazzal; scholars Judith Butler and Angela Davis; and authors Rachel Kushner and Ottessa Moshfegh are among those backing the petition’s demands: that the United Nations establish a peace-keeping force to protect the Indigenous Palestinian community in Israel and launch an investigation into Israeli apartheid.

The letter echoes similar calls by global organizations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, which issued an appeal on the International Criminal Court to investigate Israeli war crimes, including recent bombings of the al-Shati refugee camp and a major media tower in Gaza.

Chinese Tech Firms Still Have Difficulty Promoting Gender Equality

Human Rights Watch has issued a report calling attention to the way large Chinese technology companies are wishing to fight machismo in the workplace. According to the statistical survey, almost one in five job ads posted in the country include information such as "men only" or "preferably men". According to Sophie Richardson, director of Human Rights Watch in China, some companies go deeper into sexism. This is the case with Alibaba, which advertised recruiting ads promising, as one of the benefits of the vacancies offered, that the work environment had beautiful work colleagues.
