Your thoughts on Retta's recent interview? 👀
I don't really have any new ones, anon.
A part of me does think it's a little unprofessional as Good Girls is still a brand and the people involved do all still work in the industry, but at the same time, it's been over a year since the cancellation, and there's no longer a workplace to protect or co-workers to shield. They've all moved on from that particular job, and she's absolutely entitled to her feelings about it, and can speak to those feelings if she wants to, especially when she's asked directly about it in an interview.
I said at the time that I don't think Manny was wrong for turning s5 down, particularly when the cast was being asked to return for less money, and I stand by that opinion. I don't think anyone in the cast should've been asked to do that, and I think particularly with Netflix's track record of mistreating the creative talent it works with, it does further set a precedence for creatives with less power, status and stability to be underpaid for their work.
Putting that context aside though, I do think it's important to remember that Manny has been making shady Instagram posts and passive aggressive comments on his podcast (and I believe continues to do so) since they were filming s3, and so he broke this particular workplace social contract long before Retta did, and he did it while they were still colleagues.
I think there's a broader, and very interesting conversation to be had about the fact that when Manny talks shit about the behind the scenes of Good Girls he's seen as speaking his truth and when Retta does it's seen as unprofessional bitching, but that feels like a conversation for another day.
