GUYS! I NEED HELP!

Can anyone please help me in providing some sort of tutorial or way to record a certain scene FROM DVDs that automatically turns into a mov file? I keep trying to find a solution online but it keeps giving me solutions which only lets me convert the dvds first into an mov file and then giffing it. Also, giffing it straight using VLC is no help because it's not smooth and just looks like screencaps rolled together. Is there a way to record the scene from the dvd using a software? Suggestions of where I can find and download those would be much appreciated! Help?
