She held him in her hand—not just his flesh, but his breath, his surrender, the weight of his wanting. His pulse throbbed against her fingers, a silent confession spoken in the language of skin. He was power undone, strength unraveled, every muscle tense with the torment of waiting.
Her gaze held him just as firmly, dark with knowledge, heavy with promise. She traced the edge of his control, testing, teasing, until the air between them grew thick with something primal. He ached, not just for her touch, but for her will—for the way she commanded him with nothing but presence. And when she finally granted him release, it was not just his body that surrendered, but something deeper, something sacred, something that belonged only to her.

To those who may or may not have known, I'm a software/web developer. I'm also a black cis man (relevant, I promise). I went to school for it and have been officially working in this field for about 5 years. It was only this weekend that I heard about the Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Computing (henceforth referred to as GHC). A cursory Google search shows that it is essentially what it says on the tin along with being a networking and career building event for women going into tech. Language has opened this up to non-binary people as well. My first thought for this was the same as it has been for other organiations/conferences like Black GIrls Code (which y'all should support btw): "It's not for me but I hope it helps who it IS for." Honestly, the fact that I hadn't even heard of this till now is even proof of that.
Maybe it's because I am at a crossroads of privilege (cis-gendered, Christian man) and marginalization (black), but that makes sense to me. I've attended events geared towards getting more black and/or low-income people into coding. I've VOLUNTEERED for groups that are aimed at that. That's why this year's GHC has not surprised me, but disappointed with the number of dudes running in waving around resumes to get a position. There are countless career fairs across many disciplines, I should know, I've been unemployed and was going to maybe 3-5 a week at my peak. There is an unspoken rule that if an event (or anything in society really) is not specifically for a particular group, it will end up being more the most prevalent part of the target audience. I've gone to tech conferences and been surrounded by a sea of white (and sometimes East Asian or Indian) faces. I was not the focus, and I can tell you with 100% certainty that I never got call backs from my resume at those conferences. This isn't to say it isn't possible, but biases, implicit and explicit, exist in all industries, and tech is no different.
Conferences/organizations that target marginalized communities are meant to give the people who may be ignored in the general pool of applicants a chance to show their skill and hireability in a field that usually overlooks them. How that is hard to understand, I don't know, but the defenses of the guys who showed up there that I've seen are in bad faith. One addressed to me personally is that I should "quit my job so a woman can take it," which required me to step away from the internet because of just how dumb it was. I digress: Do better.
