Godna, what is it?
It's the tattooing art practice of some tribal communities from Northern, Central, and diaspora communities found in the Caribbean after Indians were sold/traded in slavery along the Caribbean trade routes.
It is predominantly practiced by women and usually can cover things like from mythology, elements, stories, however, most common was actually...your life story.
That's right. Ghonda is a storytelling traditional art form and form of identity in where you could record your status, wealth, aspects of your life and more.
Even some womens' gods were pricked (iron needles and ink) into the skin under the belief that when the woman died, even their faith/their gods would be with them. As too do your stories go with you.
