Arkeolog!Lloyd drabble 6/6 (alt route 2/2)

Lloyd was still reeling over the volcano, over Kai hugging him close as they finally escaped, landing safely aboard the Bounty. Now they all stood in front of him, his dad and uncle by his side.

"I finally realised who I'm supposed to protect," Kai said, looking directly at Lloyd and all he truly felt was the desperate panic he'd learn to associate with his mum.

"Me?" Lloyd said anyways, sparing both his uncle and dad from explaining.

Kai nodded, all of them seeming a bit surprised as the golden weapons glowed and Lloyd didn't react other than wonder at the glow.

A long wail echoed through the boat, Lloyd flinching back at the sound of it. He already knew who it was.

"...I already knew," Lloyd looked down at the floor, turned away from the weapons as if this somehow would defy the Destiny he'd been given, "Mum told me already at Darkleys."

"Misako?" Wu and Garmadon both looked at him in confusion and shock, "How?"

"She's been with me this whole time. Something about being bonded to me for afterlife?"

"She's.. been with you?"

Lloyd nodded and backed away, not able to bear his mother's wails any longer, "I- I'm sorry- I'll be back I just-"

Without another word, Lloyd had turned and ran out of the room towards the wails of Misako's grief.

Yet no matter how he searched, he couldn't find her anywhere and as the wails abruptly stopped, he panicked.

"Mum? Mum! Where did you go?" Lloyd ran through the ship, calling out for the ghost of his mother.

"I can't find mum anymore!" Lloyd cried out as he found the others again, "I heard her wailing as the weapons glowed but now I can't see or hear her anymore!!"

"Maybe she moved on?" Jay tried, Cole, Kai and Nya immediately hitting him in the arm.

"I'm sure she'll be back!" Kai said instead, "If she's bonded to you, she simply gotta, right?"

Lloyd nodded, choking on his sobs as he fell into Kai's arms, "She promised she wouldn't leave again! She promised!!!"

The others quickly surrounded him in a hug, Garmadon even picking him up in his arms.

"She'll be back," Cole promised in a whisper yet none knew what actually to make of the situation. Yet they all knew such a promise couldn't be made.

Arkeolog!Lloyd drabble 5/6 (alt route 1/2)

It felt odd to know things his uncle didn't, to know he was that destined mythological ninja uncle Wu had searched so for once upon a time. Though, it was pretty amusing watching the other ninja trip over themselves in an attempt to prove themselves to a destiny that wasn't theirs. Lloyd would gladly give it away though if it meant he didn't have to eventually fight his father.

So Lloyd kept silent, keeping the scrolls close and the letters closer, his mum often sitting beside him and softly combing through his hair with translucent fingers.

"I don't wanna fight dad once they figure out it's me," Lloyd said, this thing that had been repeated thousands of times over.

"I know," Misako whispered, pulling him closer, "I don't want you two to fight either. That's why we can't tell them for as long as possible."

"But you're already dead, what more is there to find to stop this?"

"....I don't know," she sighed, "I just don't want either of you to get hurt and... I can't accept it not being stoppable. I- We just haven't found it yet."

"I have read through your scrolls hundreds of times and combed through the library at least twice," Lloyd noted, carefully leaning into her touch.

"I know," she pressed a cold soft kiss to his forehead, "I'm sorry."

Then his dad was brought to the ship too and finally Lloyd almost felt like they could be a whole family, even though Misako's sad glances at himself and his dad, or the looming destiny echoing in Lloyd's skull. For a short moment, none of it mattered except his mum, dad and uncle Wu all being there together with him.

"We're almost like a whole family now," Lloyd said one night, his mother hugging his back as he cuddled close to his dad, uncle Wu sitting by their feet.

Dad and Uncle looked at each other sadly before looking at Lloyd again and suddenly he remembered no one else could see Misako.

"Except mum," Lloyd added after a moment, cold arms hugging him tighter, "But I'm sure she's here too!"

"Me too," Uncle Wu agreed, fidgeting with the tea cup in his hand.

"As long as we remember her, she'll be here," Dad said and Lloyd wanted to tell them so bad that she really was there.

"That's my tea set Wu's been using," Misako mumbled, "It's one of the things my coworkers sent to him."

"And your dad has the scarf I gave him for our wedding," Misako added after a moment, "My coworkers must have found a way to the Underworld."

Lloyd hugged the cold hands wrapped around him tighter, neither of them caring as Lloyd only moved straight through.

"Why are you still here?" Lloyd asked from where he'd sunken down to the floor, hugging his knees to his chest and looking down at the wooden floors of Darkleys.

"What do you mean?" the ghost of his mother asked, her voice gentle and confused, yet it glitched and flickered all the same like a dying flame.

"I mean," Lloyd started, looking up at her before looking away again, "Why are you here, with me? Don't you have anywhere better to be where you can keep ignoring I even exist?!"

"Oh, Lloyd," Misako sank down to the floor in front of him, "I didn't want to leave you, it was far too dangerous and... If you'd come with me, you'd have died too. I didn't want that for you. I always wanted to come back for you. I wrote you letters…"

"Then why did you die and leave me?"

A pair of cold arms wrapped around him, Misako flickering even worse as she attempted to hug him, "I love you, Lloyd. I am truly deeply sorry I couldn't stay or couldn't be here for you. I know this will never be the same, and I won't expect you to agree right away. You have all the right in the world to hate me and be angry. But," she paused, the arms disappearing as she lost focus on her solid form, "....I hope that, someday, you'll give me a second chance."

"You left me," Lloyd repeated, breath hitching on a sob, "You promised you'd return and you LEFT me-!!!"

"I know," Misako seemed close to tears herself, "I know. I'm a horrible mother and I understand if nothing will ever be enough to make it up to you. But can I at least try? I do love you, and I am truly sorry it became this way."

"Not right now," Lloyd decided after several moments of silence, Misako flickering and glitching even more. "I'm still too upset at you."

"Okay," Misako nodded, moving back, "Please, tell me when you're ready? I'll... be around. I'm bonded to you now, but I'd never leave you again no matter what. You're my son and all I've ever done is for you and your father; for our family."

With these words Misako faded into nothing and Lloyd finally let the tears fall, forcing himself to stay as silent as possible.

A while later, Misako flickered back into vision in front of him.

"I'm- I'm sorry," she apologised, "I'll fade away again if you want me to. I just.. I have to ask. Have my coworkers given you my letters and research yet?"

Lloyd shook his head, trying to dry his tears, "N-no. They haven't."

Misako nodded, flickering away for a second before returning, "Okay. Tell me when they do? It's very important information in those scrolls and I- I need you to know it, but don't tell anyone else what it is. Please?"

"Fine."

"Thank you," Misako breathed out in relief before pausing, hesitating, "Do you want me to stay visible? A hug?"

"...only a hug," it took several minutes for Lloyd to utter the words, curled up on himself. The next second Misako had disappeared again, yet he felt a cold presence pressed against his back. He decided it must be her.

thinking about Slightly Left Of Human Misako tonight,,,, and her never knowing it (finding out at the same time as Lloyd in canon maybe? about him being dragon/oni too? I haven't caught up to this part yet so idk lmao)

ANYWAYS

Misako being like 80-99% human, but never knowing she's anything else but human. Misako being a 1/10 ghost from a since long forgotten relative from several generations ago, and now she just has an odd (mild!) allergy to water. Misako being 1/10 a Witch and traces of Natural Magick in her, yet it's so faint she's never noticed it other than sometimes just Knowing stuff. Misako being 1/10 skulkin and now her bones are just a bit easier to dislocate then it's for others or her bones are just the slightest stronger. Misako's own mother/father having the same, and that entire side of the family. Misako never questioning it, maybe not even fully noticing it at all (Misako thinking it's just her family's Family Tradition, if they even do anything specific related to the Not Fully Human heritage at all)

Misako going her whole life thinking she's fully human, and one of the few fully humans in the friend group (the FSM family line + the ninja) and by the time she does start to question it, her parents are already long dead and the only thing would be any siblings if she has any. Maybe a cousin, if she's lucky. So she's mostly left on her own to dig through her family's history

I got an idea of ghost!Misako comforting Cole in S5 after he first turns into a ghost and her wrapping a water proof blanket or cape around him so ???? low effort doodle comic time <333

read Cole's lines first, then Misako's

[I.D. a three panel comic in a very simple shape-y style done in digital. It is of Cole and Misako from Lego Ninjago. Cole is drawn in a round shape and afro in dark green. Misako is drawn as a thinner body type and a bun in orange.

Panel one: Cole sits with his arms crossed and closed eyes on the right side of the screen. Next to him is the text "Sigh :(". Misako is coming from the left side of the screen with a piece of brown fabric. Misako says "What's wrong, Cole?"

Panel two: Cole now has open eyes. He says "It's raining out and I can't join the others". Misako is closer to Cole now. She says "Oh. I got something that might help a bit"

Panel 3: Cole is now wearing the brown fabric around his shoulders. It is seen behind him too. Cole says "Thank you, Misako". Misako says "No worries dear". They both have small smiles now.

Arkeolog!Lloyd drabble 3/6

Misako didn't even think as she saw another student hold her son up against a wall, hands squeezing the thin skin around a fragile neck. She didn't think and instead just jumped into the offending student's body, forcing those hands away from her son's neck, making those very same hands squeeze the student's own neck.

YOU WILL LEAVE MY SON BE OR I'LL STAY LONGER NEXT TIME she screamed inside the student's mind, making the hands squeeze tighter to underline her threat. AM I UNDERSTOOD?

The student nodded in their inner mind, begging to be left alone. Satisfied the student wouldn't hurt her son again in at least the next couple of months, Misako left the body and glared down at the crumbled body.

"What-" the student gasped, "What the fuck?"

Misako moved over to her son, still invisible as she whispered into his ear, Get away, I'll keep them distracted for longer if I need to.

"M-mother?" Lloyd whispered, looking around the school yard where he'd been brought, "What-"

Get away while you can, Misako repeated, standing between her son and the other students now. I'll protect you.

Lloyd didn't know what he'd done if his mum hadn't been with him after he'd left Darkleys, the scrolls and letters a few of the things he'd managed to actually bring.

Misako would keep him alive, pointing out edible things from poison, alerting him of danger similar to how she'd done at Darkleys and possessing whoever she needed to. She had possessed Lloyd himself at some point too, when the rain or water was all around and she couldn't stay dry from it. It had been weird the first times; to be possessed by his mother and truly feel all the distress and grief over not being there for him. Over not being able to be a living mother. But now it was... oddly familiar.

"Misako?" Lloyd spoke into the empty room at the attic, the scrolls and letters all spread out around him. He'd already locked the door, triple checked it even.

"Yes?" Misako flickered in front of him before becoming more solid once more.

"What... is this?"

Misako looked down at the floor, floating above the papers as it rustled.

"Oh! My research! Did they tell you anything?"

"No, just that I had to keep it very safe but this is Darkleys. There's nothing safe here..."

"Ah," Misako nodded, flickering again as she sat down beside him. For several minutes she was silent, trying to figure out the best way to tell this.

"It's about a prophecy," she started at last, "My research, that is. It's about a legendary Green Ninja that will shine above all else and defeat a... darkness. Good defeats Evil kinda thing. Except- Except I know it's not just a myth, and I know who.. this destined ninja is. And- and- and I'm so sorry my son- Lloyd-"

"What are you saying?" his voice came out far sharper than intended.

"..... I'm saying it's you. I'd hoped sending you here would push it up for long enough at the very least. Give me more time to stop it or at least slow it down. I... suppose it doesn't matter now, that I really did leave you for- for n-nothing and- and- and-"

Lloyd hadn't known ghosts could cry, yet here Misako was, tears falling down her cheeks like phantom waterfalls as she at last broke down, cold arms wrapping around him as she cried out apologises over and over again, like a record on repeat.

"All of this," Lloyd looked around at the papers and scrolls scattered around them, "It was to... save us? Me and dad?"

Misako nodded against his shoulder, seemingly attempting to hug him tighter yet all that happened was that she began to sink through him.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so so so sorry-"

Perhaps this was the day Lloyd finally began to entertain the thought to let Misako at least try to be a better mother, no matter if she was dead or alive. Yet, it'd still take long until he actually called her anything but by name.
