Two years ago today, Saugus High School became yet another school shooting statistic, taking the lives of Gracie Muehlberger and Dominic Blackwell.
This tragedy sadly wasn’t the first school shooting, and unfortunately, it won’t be the last. However, it was the first school shooting to involve a ghost gun.
Ghost guns are sold as kits online to be assembled at home. Because certain parts are unfinished, they aren’t classified as real firearms. This means that they don’t require a serial number, and are untraceable. And yet, despite not being classified as guns, a ghost gun can be assembled into a fully functioning gun in under and hour. Anyone can get their hands on them, and they don’t require background checks.
Ghost guns are showing up in more gun violence cases by the day, and the longer this problem remains unaddressed, the worse the situation will get. But we’re fighting back. H.R. 1454 will get ghost guns recognized as real guns, and we hope we have your support on it. If not, we’ll continue fighting regardless.
