Episode 42 Part 2: Doubt
Gabriel, a ghost with the power to control air, is searching for his twin sister and of course Lewis will help. He has to find his own human, too...
But Lewis is still afraid of meeting Arthur again after all that happened, and sometimes, you can´t repair damage that was done.
Charlie McCarthey: Anything besides Arthur's voice had a hard time reaching Lewis, it seemed. The ghost lumbered forward mechanically, harshly grabbing Mystery with one hand and the other curling into a now firey fist as he reeled it back.
Yoshi Raven: Mystery immediately let go of Arthur and attacked Lewis, slamming him on the floor. He didn´t want to hurt the ghost but he was more dangerous than Arthur - and the mechanic wouldn´t run. The kitsune hit him with his claws, doing some damage - he knew he´d regenerate later and Lewis would forgive him for sure. He wouldn´t want to kill Mystery. His six tails were curling around the ghost tightly, locking him in place. "Lewis... stop..." he tried again.
Charlie McCarthey: The ghost thrashed instead, instinctively fighting back under the weight of the kitsune's clutches. He ignited most of his body, trying to scorch the kitsune with his own purple fire as he fought back, Arthur's last order still fogging up his mind.
Yoshi Raven: The kitsune whined when the fire was almost burning him but he didn´t let go. This attack made him mad and he bit in the ghost´s shoulder strongly, clawing at his locket. Scratches appeared on the glassy surface.
A small group of hooded figures was watching the fight and they moved closer slowly, not making any sounds.
"Come on Lewis! Kill him already!" Arthur screamed again, "Hurry up you useless ghost!"
Charlie McCarthey: Well if the kitsune's claws raking over the anchor's surface didn't do it, Arthur's yelling sure did. The locket heated up, flaring angrily in a little whirl of painful fire as Lewis and Mystery fought each other tooth and nail. Mystery was ancient and had the technique, but Lewis was younger and seemed unable to react to pain. As good as that might sound, that meant Lewis didn't notice when he was getting to tired, his fire dying down as he pushed himself toward his limits against the other supernatual creature.
Yoshi Raven: The fight seemed to last an eternity, but at one point Mystery was barely able to stand. Scratches and burns covered his fur and he was tired. The kitsune glanced over to Arthur, the amulet now outside of the shirt. He had to free Arthur from this. Mystery attacked Lewis with a jump, hitting his head with his paw strongly and smashing him into the ground, then he leapt at Arthur, landing on him and bit the necklace off. Arthur yelled at him and hit his giant legs but of course didn´t do serious damage.
Charlie McCarthey: Lewis went down into the ground, and for all of Mystery's exhaustion, Lewis had been faring as worse. This time he didn't get back up, the heart pounding weakly as he stayed down on the blackened ground. He wasn't even aware when there was a slither of magic that coiled toward him, or a familiar glow they had seen in a forest once before.
Yoshi Raven: When Mystery had finally get rid of the amulet, Arthur was left in a daze. He moved from Arthur and turned back to his smaller form, then dropped on the floor next to Lewis, looking at him worried. Had he hurt him too much...? The now dog wasn´t able to ask him. A hand was grabbing him and put a collar around his neck. Of course he struggled and growled, but an electric shock paralyzed him. The man put him in a cage while an other one was trapping Lewis in a magic sphere. "We got them. Let´s go before that brat wakes up"
----------
Charlie McCarthey: Lewis drifted slowly back to awareness, with no idea how much time had passed, or even what really had happened. The light in his sockets ignited tiredly, but they were dim and, come to think of it, so was the anchor. It was still pink at least, but more a blush color than it's usual neon tone. He was lying on the ground--on stone--and his memory wasn't adding up with his current placement. Nhh... where?
Yoshi Raven: You´re a prisoner.. like the rest of us. another ghostly voice close to him answered his question. It was a young guy with long, light blue hair. He was slightly transparent, the air around him vibrating a bit. They brought you here with the dog... is he a friend of yours? Mystery was lying on the other side, sleeping. He was exhausted and the electric shock didn´t do good.
Charlie McCarthey: Lewis followed his gaze, but his exhaustion vanished into shock at the sight of the little dog. Mystery! He jerked up and over, before he caught sight of burn marks--burn marks? They were healing slowly even as he eyed them, but the sight made him draw back in horror and fear now--had he done that...? Arthur--Arthur was the one who-- His anxiety settled in his gut like a stone, and he turned to the ghost. Is there... there isn't a blonde guy... w-with a metal arm around here, is there? Have you seen him?
Yoshi Raven: Hey, I was here days before you were caught. Haven´t seen anything but this damn stone walls, and these guys are more interested in supernatural creatures for their crimes - wait. Are you talking about.. a human? Does that mean you´re connected to a living person, too?! he asked and got up on his feet. His hair started floating a bit in excitement and the air in the prison seemed lighter now.
Charlie McCarthey: Lewis was looking off to his left and at the ground, eyes narrowing and filled with confusion and hurt. It was so bad it had made a little dent in the once lively anchor. Cracks were one thing, dents were entirely new. I... I'm supposed to be but now I'm not so sure. My human didn't exactly... live up to expectations. Admitted the ghost quietly, with the tone of someone who didn't want to discuss this further. He had a lot to think about. He turned to the kid. But then, you are? Connected, I mean.
Yoshi Raven: Yeah... my twin. Long story short: horrible accident. Killed me, made her blind. I didn´t want to leave her alone and since then, I´m always with her. Well... was. Until these idiots got me and her. They took Alex because we´re connected, so there´s a chance they got your human, too. But I can´t get out alone here. He moved over to Mystery and inspected the wounds. May I ask what your name is? I´m Gabriel.
Charlie McCarthey: Lewis. He answered softly, his hand moving through the dog's neck scruff gently as he stroked his fur. I'm so sorry, Mystery. I'll get you out of here, and back to Vivi, I promise. ...you too, Gabriel. We'll get you back to your twin. Getting them out was the first problem. Getting back and confronting Arthur... was the second. And for some reason for Lewis, it was the one that he was most fearful of. He shuddered, and just focused on the other two who needed his help now.
Yoshi Raven: Thanks... he mumbled and decided the dog - who was no normal dog for sure - could need some kind of treatment. Alex and I need each other. We´re... some kind of symbiosis. Well, I guess your friend here needs some help. Gabriel placed his hands in front of Mystery´s face. A sphere of air formed around the dog´s head. No worries, I just increase the oxygen. Since he´s not just a dog, I guess, this will make him heal faster. Well, it would make all living creatures heal faster, to be more accurate.
Charlie McCarthey: Lewis gave an interested noise, watching this power closely as he sat by Mystery. Living...? That must come in handy for your twin, then. Lewis's tone turned a touch bitter. I'm not really made to do anything like that. I just destroy things. A weapon. He sat back against a wall, bringing a knee up to rest his arm on it as his human guise melted into place. I guess that's how it's supposed to work--the ghost and human need each other equally. That's the IDEA, anyway. That didn't mean it worked out perfectly in every case.
Yoshi Raven: It is useful, yes... hey. Don´t say that. He let the sphere do his work and joined Lewis. Every ghost powers have disadvantages. I see that you have your core. That means you´re strong on your own, right? My core is hidden inside Alex, and when we´re separated... I´m useless. I can just do the smallest and weakest things. Increasing the oxygen of the air, wow. I could summon a storm that destroys buildings and cut things, I can make lungs collapse or take away the air humans need - I´m as much a weapon as you are. But your powers saved your human at least once, or? I´m sure you can use them for something like healing, too, you just have to figure out how. He poked his shoulder. What power do you have, anyway? I think it´s obvious what I have.
Charlie McCarthey: Lewis didn't move his head, but his glowing eyes slid slowly to bore into Gabriel's. My human is the reason I have ghost powers. He let the kid figure out what that meant. And I am made of fire. Of revenge. He couldn't look the kid in the eyes anymore, not this kid who thought the world of their twin. Lewis stares across to the bars blocking their escape, and his eyes are dark. My 'powers' don't save anybody--they're there for burning down forests, burning one of my closest friends alive, and--and for my human to use for whatever he pleases, apparently.
Yoshi Raven: .... oh. He crossed his arms, thinking. Hmm... fire, then. I don´t know if it makes you feel better and it may sound stupid when telling someone who´s dead, but... fire means life. Fire means energy, and colours. Warmth. When a place burned down, new and stronger life can grow from it. Yes, it can be dangerous, just like a storm can destroy everything. But without the warmth of fire and without it´s energy, the world would be cold. I don´t know what happened between you two, but now that something was destroyed, something new and nice will grow from it. I´m sure. Gabriel ruffled his hair. Sorry, I just... try to see the good in all things. he mumbled, grinning shyly.
Charlie McCarthey: Despite himself, Lewis' gaze softened considerably as he glanced over to regard the blue tinted ghost. His human lips pulled into a little smile in fact at his last comment. It's okay. I'm sorry I--I understand, I do. He was quiet, before commenting, Arthur's about as good as you are at pep talks, actually. And Vivi would go nuts over meeting a ghost with powers as unique as yours, I know. His smile got a little stronger, reaching his eyes as it did so. When Mystery wakes up, let's try and give our kidnappers a run for their money, yeah? And get you back to where you belong. He was careful to not say where 'they' belonged because he... was still working on that.
Yoshi Raven: Gabriel smiled back happily at his comment and when Lewis mentioned the kidnappers, the smile turned into a grin. I´d like to kick their ass and I might have an idea how we can get out of here. He got up and walked closer to the iron bars. They put up something that keeps us from leaving and doing damage with our powers, but... I´m not quite sure if they made it heat-proof. If I increase the oxygen to the highest level... I´d say that your fire will easily burn the.... magic-thing and melt the bars. What do you think?
Charlie McCarthey: That's something I'm willing to try, sure. Lewis agreed to, still sitting next to Mystery. So, you hadn't seen another human captured--but you said they were interested in other supernatural creatures? Do you know what kinds? What they were doing with them? That second question might be more important than anything else. Lewis considered worriedly, wincing a little as his mind went back to his last encounter with a cult--when Wrath was still embedded in his psyche. Yeesh. Do NOT want another repeat of that, not matter how bad these people were.
Yoshi Raven: Oh, as far as I know, all kinds of creatures. I guess they´re using them for crimes. Stealing stuff and something like that. I mean, how could a human stop something that´s invisible? I´ve seen one of them holding some kind of.. stone. When he was walking past this prison, this... thing made me feel sick.
Mystery made a small noise and he opened his eyes. Gabriel let the air sphere disappear. The dog looked around, then at Lewis. "What happened? Lewis are you okay?"
Charlie McCarthey: A stone... Lewis muttered, trailing off as he got lost in thought. But then Mystery is moving by his leg and he's distracted, calling the kitsune's name in concern. Mystery! Erh--yeah, I'm fine. Just a little sore but I, I deserved that. I'm so sorry buddy--are YOU okay? He asked, ruffling the dog gently and avoiding any visible wounds as he pet his friend.
Yoshi Raven: "I´m fine too. I feel a lot better and don´t worry about the burn marks. They´ll heal fast.... who´s that?" Mystery asked when he had spotted the other ghost. Gabriel. A prisoner like you two, but not for long anymore. "Does that mean you have a plan how to get out of here?" The kitsune started sniffing on the floor, searching for an exit.
