8 : Have you been to a ritual?
I haaaaave I was at the Bridgeport ritual on August 20th. It was actually on my sister's birthday, when I told her I wouldn't be there that day, she asked me why and I just sent her a Swiss gif. She was like "are you fuckin kidding me".
I'm Canadian and I got there by bus, spent 20h travelling to the show. Would do it again in a heartbeat. It was everything. I'll never stop bragging about playing rock paper scissors with Swiss and Phantom
15 : Favourite ghoul costume era?
THIS ONE WAS MEANT FOR ME I SO HOPED SOMEONE WOULD ASK.
Impera in a heartbeat, I live for complicated costumes with infinite amount of details. There's so much happening on those costumes when you take the time to study them it's INCREDIBLE. From the fabric choices that are all so rich and different, to the accessories that were thought through down to the literal buttons on the shirts, I cannot not love them.
I adore the vests, the shape in the front and the metal work they did for those clasps. They're so detailed for something that's never getting seen from up close I LOVE it! The choice of the fabric makes me feral too, I'm not much of a fan of paisley pattern on a regular basis but that one??? Gorgeous to no end. Also a pain in the ass to find but that's another story. Also the back of their jackets??? Please 😩😩😩
And the capes!!! I know they were so impractical for the guitar-playing ghouls but FUCK were they gorgeous on them 😩 the contrast of the light blue satin with the (I'm pretty sure) black suede??? Insane. Beautiful. Gorgeous. The harness system they came up with so the capes wouldn't move around too much is also very much to be admired.
And don't even get me started on the helmets, I mean the idea to change the masks for helmets in and of itself is brilliant. But the design itself is simply gorgeous, so different from what we'd seen before with Ghost. ESPECIALLY different from what we'd seen with Prequelle, that was essentially just a remix of the Meliora masks. The execution of the design is amazing and I loved the idea of personalizing the helmets to each ghoul, so sad they got rig of that in the middle of the European leg. If they decide to ditch Dew's white horns, I might actually start a riot ngl.
If I could be left alone in a room with one of those costumes for 10 fucking minutes I'd truly die happy. Okay I'll move on or else I'm never shutting up.
18 :Favourite Ghost shirt?
Not really a shirt but I just have to say my batwing hoodie. I bought it at my ritual and let me tell you I had DREAMT of that hoodie! It was a lot of fucking money but so worth it, it's comfy as fuck. I'm so glad I got the official Ghost one instead of byuing the cheaper Hot Topic one cuz the HT one doesn't have a grucifix on the zipper and the print in the back is not the same quality.
Joshua Hong from Seventeen can get it, and by it I mean my heart --- which he already has
I found out about the Jellie statue at twitchcon maybe ten minutes ago and oh my goodness I am in tears. IT IS ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE.
okay y'know Eridian inlays and carvings??
I've been thinking about all of the little pebbles grace teaches getting a specific inlay to represent him when they graduate, something to be like "I was taught by our only ever human" in 50 years time when he's dead. And THEN I started thinking about how they might memorialize Grace and I've come to an idea I really enjoy.
Ocean Jasper inlays. I have no idea how they would get them but let's just say that Erid has them for some fucking reason.. okay?? okay.
I think Rocky would suggest it. Grace would've gone on about how much he hates water when they were making their trip back to Erid, I think he would've showed Rocky a copy of his dissertation if Stratt put it on the hail Mary for whatever reason (she so would).
A lot of his students also remember asking Grace about Earth and him saying it's mostly water, so everyone is like "oh yes yes, both Earth and Grace leaky. Perfect idea."
And rocky would be the only one to know how much of a tangent that would force out of Grace, and he chose it as Grace's representative one purely so he can be reminded of this stupid (affectionate) human and his dumb rambles about hating something that is actively keeping him alive and is integral to his survival. Also something he specifically requested make up at LEAST 30% of the biodome.
The use of aspect ratios in the PHM movie make me WEEP.
I haven't really seen many people talk about this on here yet, wether it be BC it goes a bit unnoticed or if it's so fucking obvious no one bothered to point it BUT I REWATCHED IT AND WANNA TALK ABOUT IT.
EVERY SINGLE TIME we see earth the aspect ratio is 2.39:1 (parallel bars along the top and bottom of the screen). When Grace is first trying to remember earth everyhting is hazy and blurry, as if we (the audience) are trying to remember with him. As he remembers more it becomes less blurry.
In all space scenes the aspect ratio is changes to 1.43:1 (takes up more of the screen).
I'm not sure if they have an actual reason for this yet, I refuse to google it and ruin this train of thought I had at 6am.. BUT I have 2 thoights here:
The director wanted an incredibly obvious distinction between Space scenes and Earth scenes, especially because of the therapy room and they wanted no room for confusion in the audience. Also they had those really majestic and beautiful scenes in Space (the Petrova line one) that are undoubtedly better viewed when it doesn't have bars around it boxing it in.
(my preferred reasoning) We see most of the movie from Grace's POV (not legitimentally first person in his eyes, but we find out things as he finds them out, we see things as he sees them, we only get to see how characters develop when he saw them. What the fuck does this have to do with aspect ratios? IM GLAD I HEAR YOU (DEFINITELY) ASKING ALOUD TO YOURSELF, I view it as Grace feeling more fulfilled in space in some way, while he was obviously against it in every way possible before going there, he had the option to stay and he stayed. Stratt tells us he had no immediate family on Earth, not even a dog (side tangent- this sentence was INSANE in the context of making him more expendable), in space he found Rocky, in space he got to teach to a class full of Eridians, in space he got to see the most beautiful sights. Now this could be an entirely wrong read of his character so please hold off on throwing rocks and pebbles at me. It's just something that really caught my attention how it all takes up more of the screen when he is around Rocky or just in Space... and this could just be for the first reason stated but they pay such insane attention to the visual details in this movie..
okay I'm gonna google the actual reason and get a statement from the director to see how wrong I was...
okay it was the more boring one I expected... like it's still GENIUS reasoning and especially helps BC they have the 'therapy room' (I'm probably getting the name wrong, the room with the screens y'know) and it could get a bit confusing and muddle up aspects of the narrative.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller use aspect ratios a LOT when they do things tho so.. makes sense.
This movie did such a good job with all of the visuals AHAKJAZJJSHD.
aweuh
it may be BC I'm sleep deprived and have been listening to 'so long & thanks for all the fish" for the past 3 hours on repeat but it's vaguely phm coded?? actually it's incredibly phm coded... I feel the need to make some kind of art piece inspired by it...
