Here it is, my first multi-chapter contribution to the GaaLee fandom! When I started this back in October it was suppose to be a simple one-shot but quickly got out of hand. But honestly, I am happy with the overall end product. I didn’t post the link here on Tumblr cause I wanted to have people read (and maybe enjoy or hate, depending whatever floated their boat) the finished fan piece. 

This is dedicated to the wonderful a-gay-poster (on A03), who also goes by ghoste-catte here on Tumblr. This was fun to do and I did have an experience writing this over the past few months.

SUMMARY: 

The Kage of a Hidden Village is its strongest shinobi. They can be loved, feared, or hated by its inhabitants. To court a Kage of a Hidden Village, the shinobi must first impress the village. Too bad no one told Gaara that.

WIP WEDNESDAY: 2/22/22

A snippet from what I’ve chosen to call an “unlicensed prequel” to @ghoste-catte ‘s brilliant WWDITS AU (listed as we steal the monster mash on my WIP list) that follows the immediate aftermath of Lee’s vampire transition. This has been sitting in my drafts for YEARS. Go check out their We Do The Monster Mash series on AO3 for context; it’s one of my favorites!

“You’ll want to mind yourself around her. Her interests are particularly—“

Something whizzes past both of their faces and sinks itself into the wall between them with a deep thunk. That something turns out to be a shiny steel knife.

Lee reaches for it reflexively; to his shock, Neji slaps his hand away.

“Don’t touch that. Are you an idiot?”

Despite what so many people have told him over the years, Lee is not an idiot, and he doesn’t see how pulling a knife out of a wall would make him one.

“Tenten’s the only vampire I’ve ever known to be mad enough to play with such things,” Neji explains, before turning to the shadowy corner of the den. “Can you put your toys away, please? Somewhere they’re less likely to kill me. If you could.”

A dark-haired woman—who, as far as Lee can tell, is older than Neji, judging by the fact that she appears to be peeling in places—emerges from the shadows. Looking Neji dead in the eyes, she crosses her gloved right hand over her body, takes the handle of the knife and pulls it out of the wall, playfully nudging Neji’s chin with her elbow.

“Sorry,” she says sweetly. “I didn’t recognize your friend.”

“Rock Lee is not my friend.”

“What an introduction. Would love to hear how you talk about me. Well, I’m Tenten,” she adds, turning her attention to Lee. “Nice to meet you.”

“Yes,” says Lee, still not totally sure what is happening. “Um, thank you.”

“Whose coven?”

“I, uh, don’t understand the question.”

She frowns. “Your coven? Who’s your leader?”

Confused, Lee looks to Neji for help.

Neji sighs heavily. “He is from...our coven.”

Tenten stares at Neji for an uncomfortably long time. Neither of them speaks, only a slight narrowing of the eyes here and a raised eyebrow there, but they seem to come to an understanding anyway, because Tenten finally says—

“How the hell did you manage that?”

“How did you manage that?”

“How the hell did you manage that?”

“How the hell did you manage that?”

Impossibly, the vendor's smile seems to grow.

“You are my favourite customer today!” he exclaims, reaching under the counter and pulling out a ceramic mug.

Gaara can feel himself smile back, the uptick of his mouth a strange feeling after hours of constant frowning.

“Stop flirting, Lee,” a voice calls from inside the stall.

 After a terrible meeting, Gaara spends his break on a christmas market and with the cute guy selling mulled wine.
