For the sake of clarity, I'll point out that I left months ago, so my continued non-presence doesn't technically count as a result of the finale. I relish in being a neutral party in this fraught desert of discourse, I say, absolutely not tempting fate even a little.

Tumblr did very weird things on desktop with some of my asks where it refused to display the first paragraph on desktop. Losing the first paragraph made some of the replies appear even nonsensical than they were.  On mobile the posts show in their entirety so I don’t know which version you saw. 

But yes. Official clarification. I apologize for including your name since you left months ago and are not officially a part of this ending debacle, but I felt like I needed to include you because I admire and respect your reasons for leaving. I think people who left the series at any point, whether now or months ago, did so for good reason and if they ever had doubts or qualms about that decision, the ending would do nothing to change that. <3

Honestly though all of the character commentary especially about Mikasa and Eren reminded me of the depth that the writing had (or at least seemed to have back them lol) and remembering the different ideas as to how the plot could have gone is still so much fun to look back on. Just reminds me of why I love reading all of the things people have to say about this series, and why I love the characters.

There are many mixed emotions at play when they take down Eren, for good. There's an initial swell of sheer relief, so overwhelming Connie and Jean and the many others among them seem fit to burst. The world, where it was a roaring canyon of noise and chaos sundered by colossal titans before, sinks almost instantaneously into an uncanny, anaesthetised quiet. The body of Eren, the boy-turned-god-turned-monster, fizzles into nonexistence somewhere off in the distance. Strands of his hair remain, somehow, but they are fast curling into a scraggly tumble that reminds Annie remarkably of a puddle of prosaically brown grit. 

There is also something like relief tempered by grim ambivalence, the nagging sense that their successful execution might not be a victory, cannot yet be called a victory. Nonetheless, all this is soon elided into exhaustion, the profound weight of which sits upon their shoulders and casts them in inertia, an anticlimax succeeding the flashpoint of history. Mostly, Annie is tired. There's a scream of a bruise at her elbow, and part of her jaw feels like it has been flayed alive. Still, that she is alive to feel these things is probably a blessing. Though arguably less so when she thinks upon the question of the political quagmire awaiting them all after this. 

As she looks at the aftermath of the carnage on the battered ground, she ponders what she has lost in Eren: a student, the insufferable nitwit of the 104th, a protege she was attempting to mould into better futures, the symbol of a younger and marginally less complicated time back in the barracks.

The realisation bleeds into her head: perhaps her own hands have not been untouched by loss, after all.

She joins Mikasa and sits next to her. They’re not close enough to touch in the slightest, but it’s enough for Mikasa to have glimpsed her approaching presence in the corner of her eye. Mikasa doesn't acknowledge her, at first-- her black hair, a mess of its own, shields her eyes from Annie-- but after a minute or two, she gives a curt, small nod Annie would have missed if she hadn't been watching her out of the corner of her eye.

this is from a post-canon snk wip that is going to be centred on mikasa/annie, if i ever finish it. so far, the above and a few other straggling sentences are all that exists of it, but i did want to use the fic to explore how they would have negotiated their various persisting differences, and come to some sort of understanding/commiseration with each other over the similar sorts of pain they might come into contact with, and (because i am a self-indulgent person) carved out something like a relationship amidst the disorienting post-canon recovery afterwards. it’s going to be far from an easy road for them, and i wouldn’t write the fic without touching on all the morally ambiguous/outright terrible things annie/eren has done, but i essentially wanted to write a balanced-ly realistic, happy (or as close to happy as you can get) post-canon scenario for them. some plot points i had planned for this include mikasa coming to grips with losing eren, finding her way to a sense of self that is probably less dependent on eren OR tapping into characterisations of mikasa that look at how she did have a sense of self not tethered entirely to eren (in contrast to what certain segments of the fandom sometimes think), annie being a great source of bullshit but also no-nonsense bullshit that also makes her (in a strange but it-works way) one of mikasa’s possible shots at a healthy relationship. and, of course, they kiss at some point.

i was musing that mikasa would almost definitely be saddled with a lot of trauma-- all of them will, but hers is personalised and painful in a unique way-- after the Rumbling, and because i’m very much intrigued by the thematic commonalities mikasa and annie share re: heritage, tethering your life’s purpose to someone and learning to slowly move away from that, that’s how the idea for this came about.

the tags for this, if i were to post it up on ao3, would probably include things like character study, fix-it, discussions of trauma, happy endings, the author wanting to have lots of her own cake and eat it, i am nothing if not predictable, etc. etc. (if i do write this, i’m fully going to pretend the post-canon state is a lot rosier than what isym will probably give us).

I just dropped in because jola gifs (heart eyes, thank you, etc), but seeing the mention of RWBY, if you're on the fence, the first few awkward seasons are a relatively small time commitment. I don't think the first season even hits the two-hour mark.

lmao Immi, you sent me this a few days before the leaks for chapter 131 came out and I only saw it by that time. I was about to reply something along the lines of “WE GOT IT” but then I remembered you don’t “do” leaks and... guess what? I forgot to reply to it later as I don’t check Tumblr much anymore. 

Anyway, I really appreciate your wishes and them becoming true. RIP tho. In the end getting Eren’s POV only added salt to the wound, to my pain and suffering, besides making me facepalm because my boy is a full sad clown. Still glad we finally got an actual POV of him - with his inner thoughts - and not just a string of memories like in the previous chapter. 

Considering who your fave is, I hope she gets some character justice before the end, especially for you...
