…..this is GHOST REALMS and this is “DEEP AKKALA.”
The duo of Jess (bass, synth, drums, vocals) & Matt (guitar, vocals) are a darkwave band from the depths of Detroit and join a growing list of talented & blossoming in-state peers such as Milliken Chamber, Forever Grey, and New Today (along with alumni such as Ritual Howls & Protomartyr). Ghost Realms flirt with touches of faint new wave, synthpop, and ethereal 4AD mood making for a ghostly listen.
“Deep Akkala” is a hushed slice of atmospheric Goth pop, the kind that banks on the juxtaposition of Jess’ feminine coo & Matt’s stern baritone. The arrangement is minimal, which suits the track well allowing for plenty of space and the individual components to stand out, as a solid beat serves as an anchor for moody synths, choice guitar lines, and the dual vocal purge.
Ghost Realms are currently at work on their debut album, slated for release sometime in June…..
