Crikey! I’ve noticed that, for some reason, I have a decent amount of Australian followers (comprising 5-6% of my total audience on Tumblr). I have to admit, I don’t know very much about the continent being an imperialist and ignorant American pig. But little bits and pieces of the culture from down under does slip through the cracks occasionally, particularly in the form of music. A few years ago I came across Australian band Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! and spent about three solid months discovering and replaying some of their songs because I found the lyrics to be surprisingly decent, and the hard guitars and drums got my head banging. This is indie rock, which you’re not gonna see too much of on this page… frankly because I find most indie to be totally insufferable on every perceivable level. But for this group, I’ll make a rare exception. This is a band hailing from Adelaide that officially disbanded just around a half decade ago after a long period of awkward silence from its members (who were clearly uninspired to proceed with this act). Their music is worth noting because of the one-of-a-kind instrumental style and some of the ideas and themes they managed to crank out in just under a decade. While they certainly don’t have an extensive playlist, you could just tell there was a lot of passion put into their musical projects. This is Ghostress, my very favorite from their first, and only, full length album Sea Priest. It’s definitely an interesting feeling when you find music from more than halfway around the world that you can resonate with. Click play, and g’day mates!
