❣ Staring deep into their eyes with adoration. ( luke, to julie ) - ghostwriiting
her fingers stilled on the piano keys as they finished the song, pleased with how the rehearsal had gone. luke really was so talented, and they sounded good together. plus... she liked spending time with him. with all the guys, of course, but... she and luke seemed to have connected just a little bit more. probably because they were both the lead singers. as julie turned to compliment luke on his vocals, she was taken aback when she saw that he was already gazing back at her, like the way reggie had looked at her neighbor’s puppy when it had come wandering into her driveway.
“…why are you looking at me like that?” the words, spoken just barely over a whisper, as if to not disturb the moment, were perhaps a tad hypocritical. after all, it wasn’t too far off from the way she’d been starting to look at him sometimes. well, at least how she’d assumed she’d been looking at him. but that had always been when he wasn’t looking at her. now, though... he was staring right back at her, as if he didn’t care that she saw him looking. or even, maybe, that he wanted her to.
the longer he kept his eyes on her, with that adorable little smile stuck to his face, the faster her heart began beating. like it did with nick. …like it used to with nick, anyway. only... harder. faster. paired with the butterflies going absolutely insane in her stomach, she felt like she was about to explode. like she would just... poof, the way the boys did when they left a room. except she didn’t want to go anywhere, unless it was closer to luke.
either he’d managed to read her mind, or he just felt the same way she did, because before she could repeat the question, or ask one of the many others swirling around in her mind, he was sliding closer to her on the bench, moving to close the space between them. it wasn’t until his hand reached up, lifting to cup her cheek, only to just go through her skin, that they were reminded of the circumstances. oh. right.
fortunately... well, sort of, they didn’t have much time to linger in their shared embarrassment. as they pulled away from each other, staring at the pages of lyrics on the piano in front of them, reggie and alex poofed back in, loudly chattering about... something. what it was, she had no idea, her mind had been taken over by trying to piece together what had just happened. something that definitely wasn’t going to happen with these two rattling on.
“i have homework!” with an interruption that was a little louder than necessary, julie scrambled off the bench and out of the studio, in a mad dash to remove herself from the room before she burst into tears, or swooned so hard she fainted. it was kind of hard to tell which emotion was leading the pack at the moment. she was falling for a ghost. …and he seemed to be falling right back. @ghostwriiting
