Spacefarers (7/13)
I intentionally use the word “spacefarers” (or occasionally just “aliens”) instead of “sophonts” because intelligence and sapience are subjective and inherently impossible to definitively quantify. Every organism thinks differently, and personally I don’t like dividing them into hierarchies. So, I just refer to them collectively as space-faring creatures. These are all the named spacefarers in OEH (so far):
Agacana (still in the process of being designed)
Mid-sized bipeds with a thick coat of fur. Much of their lore is still a WIP. They were the 6th group to enter the Interstellar Neighborhood 516 years* ago.
Avg size: 5’ tall, 35-40 lbs (1.5 m, 15.9-18.1 kg)
Avians (due for a new name)
Small armored creatures capable of flight. Much of their lore is still a WIP. They were the 4th group to enter the Interstellar Neighborhood 1,151 years ago.
Avg size: 2’ in length, 4 lbs (0.6 m, 1.8 kg)
Bombos
Small hexapodal creatures that hail from a relatively small terrestrial planet. They were the 3rd creature to achieve spaceflight and enter the Interstellar Neighborhood. They are known for being gregarious and empathetic, but beware trying to take advantage of them - they have the most potent venom of all spacefarers. They were the 2nd group to enter the Interstellar Neighborhood 1,756 years ago.
Avg size: 2-2.75’ tall, 20-30 lbs (0.6-0.8 m, 9.1-13.6 kg)
Daremoria
Enormous gliding creatures that hail from a distant gas giant. They were the 3rd group to enter the Interstellar Neighborhood 1,212 years ago, but exactly when they first achieved spaceflight is unknown. Daremoria are the only spacefaring solitary species, able to do so through extensive genetic memory. They’re a rare sight in the Interstellar Neighborhood, and often don’t stick around to talk.
Avg size: 60-80’ in length, 1800-2200 lbs (18.3-24.4 m, 817-998 kg)
Firebacks
Mid-sized quadrupeds that hail from a frigid terrestrial planet. They have the unique ability to spit alcohol and create sparks, making them able to, essentially, spit fire. As far as it has been recorded, they were the first organism in the region to achieve spaceflight, forming the Interstellar Neighborhood when they met Wahu a few decades later - 2,031 years ago.
Avg size: 2.25-3.3’ tall, 100-130 lbs (0.69-1 m, 45-59 kg)
Gibolanch (still being designed)
Very large aquatic creatures that hail from the underground seas of a neptunian planet. Much of their lore is still a WIP. They were the 7th group to enter the Interstellar Neighborhood 359 years ago.
Avg size: 18' in length (excluding tentacles), 2,900 lbs (5.5 m, 1,315 kg)
Grassraptors (temp name, originally designed by @gulldragon)
Tiny bipedal creatures with venomous stingers, native to a sooty planet. Much of their lore is still a WIP. They were the 8th group to enter the Interstellar Neighborhood 155 years ago.
Avg size: 6” tall, 30 g (15.2 cm)
*Years are measured in Earthen years, just to give my brain something to go off of. These timeframes (or at least the exact numbers) are largely irrelevant due to the relativity of time. I talk about this more in the “Time" section of this post.
