I love Android: Netrunner because its future is actually not as bad as the future will probably be. Like cyberpunk and other dystopiae before it, it cannot anticipate the intensity of suffering induced by evolution of present systems of oppression, but instead is our current hellscape with better toys. We can see this because we already know from previous cyberpunk that imagined something like our current technologies how much worse the ideology is. We cannot imagine how bad the future is but can escape the present with an imagined future that is only as bad as the present.
