Has Scrooge McDuck ever visited your state?
Well, he was supposed to visit mine. Until we suddenly changed the topic to the damn Mato Grosso. But I did notice some funny stuff in the process, and I want to talk about it – mostly about the Italian (Artibani's) perspective of Brazil.
Brazil has a total of 27 states, two of them being Mato Grosso (MT) and Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), both having been divided since 1977. Long story short, sul-mato-grossenses are cooler than mato-grossenses so we needed our own separate land. And Campo Grande is overall a better capital city than Cuiabá. No one will ever disagree. I swear.
So, obviously, I had my little moment of pure joy when Artibani decided to point Mato Grosso do Sul on the map. Truly innocent behavior, because little did I know this man would jump right into Mato Grosso at his first opportunity.
But, before that, something even funnier happened. They were looking for Gideon's location, who had disappeared searching for The Lost City of Z in the Amazon jungle (Mato Grosso's attempt at creating regional lore); but... the whole thing has nothing to do with Mato Grosso do Sul, then why did they mentioned it in the first place? It was clearly because of the similar names – an act of heresy for those who live in MS and MT – but I'll let this one pass.
Just for trivia, there's no Amazon jungle in MS – and to not be confused with vegetation, something that we do have; but we're not even included in the Legal Amazon program. In fact, we're far more known (and proud) for Pantanal and Cerrado, two of our three biomes:
And, of course, I'll take the opportunity to share some pictures that I took while walking around. These are examples of Cerrado. Notice how we have different variations of ecosystems.
But anyway, moving forward, Scrooge keeps calling Mato Grosso the "heart" of the Amazon jungle. Uncle. Since when? Sure, they share a very large chunk of the biome (480.215 km²), but that's literally the border of it.
Manaus, the capital city of Amazonas (interesting name, huh?), is the closest definition of Amazon's jungle heart. Only 1330km/827mi away from Mato Grosso (based on the estimated location of Z, close to Querência). Then, how exactly did Artibani come to this conclusion?
Perhaps that's a matter of Scrooge's age. In the same story, he dared to call a jaguar a fucking leopard – in South America. Unca, that's one of our national symbols... didn't José Carioca teach him about these things while dating his nephew?
Despite everything, it was still pretty awesome seeing my state being mentioned so randomly, especially with a low population density – therefore, having little external influence compared to other states. But some of those gross errors got me thinking: did you guys experienced something similar when they were mentioning your country? Of course, it does exist, but what exactly?

Been thinking about combining all of Scrooge’s stories into one and I’ve thought of something potentially interesting (at least to me)
So Gideon McDuck, I don’t know a whole lot about him but from what I’ve seen he’s an interesting character but the one issue that I find with him is that he’s Scrooge’s younger brother
The reason why I find issue with that is due to the life and times of Scrooge McDuck, in L&Ts it was almost constantly drilled into Scrooge by Fergus that he is the last of clan McDuck that he HAS to become successful in order to carry on the family legacy, he is specifically seen as the one to carry it on due to the fact that he’s a man, his sisters can’t carry on the family legacy cuz back then if they got married they would lost the McDuck surname
However introducing another sibling to Scrooges family (specifically a brother) kind of….just ruins everything…. He’s no longer the last of clan McDuck they’re no longer depending on him to carry on the family legacy
I do wish more people included Gideon in fanfics cuz this could be a really good topic, Scrooge being upset that the purpose his father drilled into him was gone due to the fact that he now has a younger brother, like cmon…….the angst or even hurt/comfort…..
There is also Rumpus Mcfowl who…..I don’t really care for but I do find it interesting that he’s the son of Fergus but not Downy, implying that Fergus either cheated on Downy or got with someone after she passed which……eh
