Tonight I met the Israel journalist and author Gideon Levy for a coffee at his home. Levy writes opinion pieces and a weekly column for the newspaper Haaretz that often focus on the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories. 2015 he won the Olof Palme Prize. We talked for quit a while. “Many countries need a change. A real change. And a change can be done only by radicals. So polarising by it self is not a problem. The problem is if it is going to the dangerous pole, which is racism and nationalism. All Europe is going to the right-wing-pole now, mainly because of immigration. That’s the main problem that concern Europe and Sweden of course. Sweden was more liberal and absorbed more immigrants then any other country. I think that is admirable and you should be very proud of it. But it create some social problems and above all it create resistance of certain groups of the population. In Israel we have a different problem - here the racism is mainly directed to the palestines. Who are not asylum seekers, they are not refugees coming for another place, they are not foreigners. They belong to this place! And they have been here before us. And they are here with us. I think racism in Israel is by far deeper then in Sweden. If I can judge. In Israel the political correctness is racist. In Sweden it is still not political correct to be a racist. The Swedish democrats are just one part, that most of the other parties is trying to boycott. In Israel we are far beyond this. And far in a worse situation. Their is no democracy when four million has no right. The israel people are brainwashed by the media and the government. No guilt feelings and no doubt. Of course I love Tel Aviv and a small minorties here. I live in a "small island. But Israel is becoming a worse and worse place”, a rather impossible place. More racist more and more religious. There is no hopefull senario. Life is to good here for israelits.
