A Single Step - Gideon & Open

Reaching into the pockets of his vest, Gideon pulled out his pocket watch and clicked it open, frowning slightly at the time before snapping it closed and tucking it away. The boat ride to the Institute had been long and the orientation to the school and its rules even longer, which left Gideon in a bit of a grumpy mood. Not that that was unusual for the man, but it was enough of a difference that even Isabella felt the need to comment. You know, you could have been here sooner if you’d taken a plane. Hush you. If man was meant to fly he’d have wings. Besides, planes mean security and I’m not likely to leave you sitting in the cargo hold of a plane where anybody could walk off with you. Aww, you’re so sweet. She loved to tease Gideon, which left him shaking his head and rolling his eyes at her antics. With his duster folded over his left arm to hide Isabella from casual view, Gideon hitched his saddlebags up onto his right shoulder and started to head down toward where the woman had said the dorms were. “Pardon me,” he drawled as he came upon someone on the path. “You reckon you could point me in the direction of the dorms and a place I can get a decent drink. I just got here and I need to knock the dust off my boots and wet my whistle a bit.”
Daisy grinned as she sat on the edge of the larger fountain in the quad. It was Topaz’s favorite, and since no one had ever told her not to let him swim in it yet, she hadn’t stopped. It was a change of scenery from the beach and waterfall and her own bathtub, and he just adored splashing around and diving for coins. “You having fun there, trouble?” she giggled, flipping a large coin into the air and watching as he chattered and made a jump for it. Only to belly-flop back into the water. “You’re such a silly one, you know that?” The witch smiled down at her niffler adoringly, giving him a tickle as a sound got her attention. Turning, her pale green eyes flared as they fixed on the male that was approaching. He looked like something out of an old western movie that Papa liked to watch, with Clint Eastwood and John Wayne. He even had saddlebags! When he got closer and addressed her, Daisy swept her red hair over her shoulder and gave him a friendly smile, trying now to look too awestruck. “Oh..sure Sir! I’d be happy to help, I’m Daisy”
