>Sometimes, he says, they come to him for fun; sometimes they’re in search of sexual healing after an emotional trauma or a divorce. “I don’t care what you pay—will a therapist hold you?,” Vin asks us, practically purring. Despite his steep rates—a two-hour, $800 minimum; $8,000 for a weekend (“We stay up for 48 hours—we do not sleep”); $25,000 for a week—he claims to have regulars. Why does our sex shaman charge so much? “If people don’t pay for it,” he says, “they don’t value it.”
Drank a scorpion bowl then half-buzzed analyzed three episodes of Showtime’s “Gigolos” with my straight male friends— currently have enough information to write too much about masculine insecurities. Merp.
- insecurity through male competition: Boobs. Lots of boobs. Occasional man ass, but only when you can also see boobs in the frame. Vagina. Some more vagina. Penis? Flaccid penis. Only flaccid penis (thank you South Park for the tip-off.) No erections whatsoever. Why? So that straight male viewers (their prime demographic) do not feel threatened by their inability to amount through self-comparison.
- male dominance. In one episode, a Gigolo is hired to have sex with a female body builder. First, he compares his triceps to hers and is very turned off that they are the same size. Next, compares his biceps and is comforted by discovering that his are bigger. She undresses. He has sex with her. While the footage of them having sex is being played, the camera cuts to later footage of him claiming “to win this date, all I had to do was prove that I was bigger and stronger than her.”
- homophobia. This same episode, a client requests to receive double penetration. One character, who has a strong history of beating his chest each time his masculinity is questioned, refuses to do so and floats at a distance while his coworker goes at it with the client. After much resistance, he eventually joins in, only under the agreement that the “woman serves as a buffer.” AKA he won’t provide anal while his male partner is performing vaginal penetration, because penises that are that close without the full object of a woman between them is just too gay and therefor rips apart his establishment as a man.
This show. No. Goodnight.
So I saw a documentary on prostitutes and they kept talking about how the women were being used and exploited.
Then I saw a documentary on gigolos and they kept talking about how the women were being used and exploited.
What?
If a woman is paid for sex she's a 'victim' but if she's the one paying for sex she's a 'victim'?
Good to know that even if you turn the tables the man is still the one with all the power.
