“Oh, Ukitake taichou. If you’re looking for Zaraki taichou, he’s not here. Neither is Kusajishi fukutaichou. Nor Madarame sanseki.” The words were spoken in an almost bored manner, drawled from the fifth seat’s lips in a way that suggested the smaller shinigami was more than used to reciting them. This was, after all, the place where no actual work would ever get done without his ( frankly rather blessed ) presence.
“Would you like me to take a message? I must warn you though, absolutely nobody is going to listen to it, so you might as well just deal with me directly from the start.”

Excitement hung in the air, and although Nel couldn’t say what was going on, she knew the Seireitei was on the brink of...something. Everywhere she looked hung spooky decorations ( as if the Shinigami weren’t scary enough on their own! ), and some of them were even in costumes. But it was the smell of sweets that truly caught her attention. She followed her nose through the winding streets, all the way to the set up of some weird looking man. He was dressed up -- the identity of his costume lost to her -- but the pile of candy next to him left her drooling. The tiny arrancar began to inch closer, eyes sparkling.
“Nel’s neber seen so much candy before...”

Laboratory duty sucks and Hiyori is precisely one chemical burn injury from outright quitting as lieutenant in its entirety. Her captain is an idiot and so is her third seat who she knows keeps purposely tripping her up and knocking her files all over the place just for the hell of it. Today, he had ‘accidentally’ spilled corrosive poison onto her white lab coat and then had the gall to complain that she wasted a valuable resource. She needs a break before she ‘accidentally’ snaps his neck.
Hiyori continues storming down through the barracks, twisting her half burnt lab coat in her hands, grumbling violent and unhappy thoughts through her gritted teeth, until she wound up somewhere completely unfamiliar. Probably the 13th barracks but, who cares? She doesn’t. As long as it’s far away from that freak of nature. Mid way through her angry ramblings, she hears a painfully loud wheezing cough from behind her. She finally stops dead in her tracks, angry thoughts now derailed into one’s of concern. She whirls around, only to see a white coat limp around the corner. Curiosity spurs her on to look for the source, and she follows the figure only to discover a very unsteady Captain Ukitake trying to lean casually against the white wall. He’s obviously trying to play it cool, giving that dopey grandpa smile, but his body betrays his happy expression. He keeps trembling like a leaf and Hiyori is almost certain that a stiff breeze can easily knock him down and out for the count.
“Oh, hey...” Hiyori says eyeing up the weakened captain cautiously. “You uh, you doing alright there old man? Where’s your usual fanclub?” She asks peering around the corners for the two lackies who were always clinging onto his coattails.

“This isn’t a commentary at all on Ukitake taichou’s fighting abilities at all- in fact, if it were down to that, I’m sure he would be outliving a lot of us- but I’ve come to understand of late the tropes that are written into bad human television, and, well.... we would be shown pretty early on that he is unwell, and then we would all know that at some stage about three quarters into the movie he would die because of some brave self sacrifice, knowing he probably wasn’t going to survive the film anyway. Plus he has white hair. Aren’t white haired characters coded to die?”
