(Inspired by @turquoisespace35 post)
Harvey is Willow’s Step-Dad???
Okay! So it’s always been my speculation that Willow was designed first, and then when Tatiana Gabrielle was cast, the crew made one of her dads black to reflect this, which led to an awkward discrepancy in hindsight of Willow herself not looking the part either!
And Dana just confirmed that’s what happened, albeit the theory that Harvey and Gilbert were both Willow’s biological dads is evidently debunked! Apparently Harvey is Willow’s step-dad, which does make me wonder if this is indicative that witches reproduce in a M/F way, or if the distinction was made solely to explain why Willow wasn’t dark-skinned? I mean for all we know Harvey or Gilbert could be a trans man and so we wouldn’t even need canon mpreg as an explanation!
Either way, there’s now the implication of Willow having an “original” parent who is now out of the picture, for whatever reason. Feel free to make your own HCs about them, or not. It’s also possible witches can reproduce asexually and Perry spawned Gus by himself, we can’t assume anything with a fictional species! /hj
Dana has also been pretty lax about her own Word of God, citing Death of the Author when encouraging fans to do their own interpretations, and seems more to be explaining her own thought process with some details. This does make me want to check, if I ever have the time and patience, if there’s a distinction of Dana applying DotA or “Headcanon” when it comes to info that comes largely from outside of the story itself —such as Willow’s sexuality, Luz moving back to Gravesfield to finish her education after the final battle, additional details on how Caleb and Evelyn met— rather than her own statements elaborating on stuff already revealed within the story (such as the audio diaries that revealed Lilith as aroace).
But I digress! Damn should I consider HCs about Gilbert’s first partner and what happened with them? Should I make a reference to it in Lost Hoots? Or I could just ignore it. Much to think about…

happy pride month!
Regarding recently seen discussions about Harvey's reaction to Willow dating Hunter:
Bonus:
I find similarities here
little Phil we have Gus here
at first, unlike Willow, he was skeptical about Hunter
where did this new guy come from and he doesn't inspire confidence
Porter also warned Hunter not to dare to hurt Willow in any way
looks like little Phillip who didn't trust Evelyn
and Philip was also the one who tried to shield Caleb from some strange influence from a stranger. Let her pretend to be someone she is not, but Philip does not trust her and seems to see right through her, fearing for his elder sibling. It's like Gus at the beginning of Any Sport in a Storm, with his protection of Willow and an incredulous look at this new guy Caleb BloodWilliams
plus Gus is like a younger brother for Willow
when Hunter takes a flyer from Willow that attracts his attention, he becomes interested and makes contact with Park
and in Caleb's case, he was attracted to Evelyn by wild magic that makes Wittebane make contact with Clawthorne
and at the end of ASIAS, albeit not completely
still, Hunter's brain was well washed and strong evidence is needed for him to stop idolatry of uncle
but still Hunter at the end of Any Sport in a Storm at least a little begins to understand the wrongness of his actions and acts nobly
a seed of gradual slow awareness and maybe doubts in the Emperor as a magnanimous ruler was sown
and then it begins to grow. In Hollow Mind, the tree of his awareness of the truth grew and then began to bear fruit.
and there is also a similarity
Dana wrote that Evelyn often pretended to be a human when she went to the world of people
in Any Sport in a Storm we have Hunter trying to pretend to be an ordinary teenage student like everyone else
having come to Hexside school trying to fit into society and so that no one would suspect who he is and successfully gain trust for his own purposes
and he, like Evelyn, found a person who attracted him and whom he admired and respected
with whom he had a connection and who gave him a chance to continue strengthening their relationship in the future
but also if we take Willow's similarity with Evelyn
this is what Park as Clawthorne saw the real her future beloved boy, that in fact he did not want evil and was not to blame for the circumstances that led him to the wrong choice, but he corrected what he did and earned her forgiveness. They both saw that Hunter and Caleb are not evil, and they deserve to be understood, even if they were originally both for the purpose of a witch hunt.
and ASIAS also gave Hunter the idea of the existence of team games where you don't have to hurt others to win.
Evelyn, I think, knew perfectly well that Caleb was a the witch hunter, but after watching him, she saw that he did not pose a threat to her, she wanted to attract his attention, it became interesting to start a conversation with him and get to know him better
thus, we have some similarity between the story of Huntlow and the story of Hunter's parents
(Yes. for me, Caleb and Evelyn are his parents
this is my favorite headcanon, okay?)
but if Cavelyn was connected by birds, especially Flapjack
Huntlow connected Flyer Derby
this is already a reference and parallels to Willow's fathers Gilbert and Harvey who also played together in the same team in childhood and perhaps they also met as Hunter and Willow in the future
See, right?
they have similarities but they are not absolutely the same and that's good
Hunter is a separate person and he has his own story as I have already voiced above a bunch of times
Huntlow and Cavelyn are similar but they are different
and I love it!
