You felt Chevalier stiffen, ready to pull you out of the way should the need arise. But that was far from Gilbert's intention.

"I suppose", he lifted your chin with his finger so you'd meet his eye, "I would be willing to share"

His smile was not directed exclusively at you but at Chevalier as well. You glanced up at him and saw his blue eyes narrow.

"She wants me. You know she does", Gilbert addressed Chevalier directly, "You'll like what I'm offering I'm sure". The dark prince parted your lips with his thumb as he returned his eyes to yours, "You said you'd hate me if I kept him away", he said, "So I guess that means I just have to keep him with us."
