This is Lucky! He is indeed very “lucky” 😍 On May 11, 2021 Lucky rolled and was trapped under the lower portion of his stall at his owners home. It happened in the middle of the night and Lucky struggled to escape. The owner called us that morning after he cut Lucky free and we rushed to go help. Lucky was down and unable to stand. He had a pelvic fracture and peroneal nerve injury. We used a truck to move him to our stables (first time in the history of this island where a vehicle was used to move a pony). Lucky was strong and wanted to survive so we worked very hard for many months on rehabilitation. Going from unable to stand…to walking on three legs…to limping…to swimming…to running! Today you would never know Lucky suffered such a bad injury. He is a resident here and helps us out by pulling a cart a few times a week bringing grass or rice bran. This keeps his mind busy and helps keep him in shape. In years past Lucky would have been slaughtered…but thankfully things have changed and we can help what often seems hopeless.
