how is gillovny different from snogger?
Traditional snoggers have been around since the 90s and these people do not seem…okay. They insisted David and Gillian were a couple - even when they were married to other people, that David fathered Piper, etc. They also expressed complete and total hatred toward Tea - for no other reason than having been involved with David. Snoggers were typically hostile and unreasonable and most fans from back in the day generally despised them and felt embarrassed by their existence in the fandom….which is why you’ll still find older fans reluctant to embrace the “Gillovny” culture, imo.
Gillovny seems far more tongue-in-cheek to me. There are some self-proclaimed Gillovnyists that just think David and Gillian are adorable together and ship them. There are hardcore Gillovnyists who believe them to be together - but still love Tea, 100% respect those who don’t agree with them, and are just cool people who think David and Gillian are now a couple. Gillovnyists also generally seem to have a strong sense of humour about being Gillovny in the first place - thus, all the jokes about “Gillovny Trash.” Where snoggers gave off a scary vibe of obsessed-fans-gone-mad, Gillovnyists generally seem to be having a laugh.
