Uma: Lightning can't strike twice.
Gil: Harry's been struck twice.
Harry: Both on my birthday!
Princess Courting
My late Christmas gift for @brokengem. Sorry I have no time management skills, but it’s here now!
And big shout out to @descendantssecretsanta for organizing this whole thing! So much new content has been added and it’s all thanks to you, love!
Summary: The Sea Three all have giant crushes on Evie and are trying to make it known. Too bad it never goes as planned.
Obviously, Harry will be the one to bring in the lovely princess to their love triangle-turned-square. He’s more suave than Gil, prettier than Uma (not that Harry says it to her face) and he’s an overall gentleman. When he wants to be.
And Evie Grimhilde makes him want to be.
He’s head-over-heels, wonderfully, crazily, shout-it-from-the-rooftops in love with Uma and Gil. Harry would gladly lay down his life for both of them, maybe even give up his hook for them. He can express that openly in Auradon. Harry never thought he would want to, but he does.
In Auradon, there are no more turf wars. Uma and Mal have found a solid understand: they both pretend like the other doesn’t exist. How anyone could ignore Uma was beyond Harry, but Mal has always been a little strange like that.
But it means that the Sea Three and the Rotten Four are...not enemies. Uma weaves little braids into Carlos’ hair sometimes when he tutors Gil. Jay and Gil are on the tourney team together. Harry and Mal have even had civil conversations about the best way to sharpen a knife.
Most importantly, it makes Evie fair game.
“Good evening, Princess,” Harry purrs as he slips into the seat easily. “How’re ya this fine evening?”
Evie looks up from her magazine, but doesn’t jump. She must have been aware of his presence for a while now.
Harry likes that. She fits into Auradon like a puzzle piece while the dirt of the Isle is still clinging to her boots.
“Hello, Harry,” Evie bats her eyelashes just shy of being flirty and smiles politely at him. “What are you up to?” Her magazine is open to a fashion page, little circles around all the pink clothing and smaller hearts on the edge. She’s got her own successful side business going, that’s right, fully prepared to take on the world.
“Just appreciatin’ a sight more beautiful than the ocean at night.” He leans on his elbows and bats his eyelashes way past flirty, probably bordering on the realm of creepy.
But Evie just quirks a brow. “I don’t think Uma’s here though.” She teases.
“Ya think Uma’s beautiful?” Hades help him, this is a sign! Any person who adores Uma should be with them.
Especially since Uma first brought up the idea of claiming Evie. Harry wondered if Uma was ever lonely being the only girl in their trio, but she seemed to genuinely respect Evie.
“I would hope that’s what you meant seeing as she’s your girlfriend.” Evie’s smile disappears and her tone takes on a bite that Harry shivers over.
He opens his mouth, but Evie raises a hand.
“Yours and Gil’s. Sorry.” She clears her throat. “I know he’s a part of it too and you would never leave him out. He’s so sweet.”
“Ya think so?” Evil, she’ll fit in perfectly!
“I really do.” Evie smiles and it’s gone in an instant. “You should be a little more appreciative of them.” She points a finger in his face, then slams her books shut. Evie is out of her chair and out of the library before Harry can pull his thoughts together.
---
Seducing a woman is a woman’s job, obviously.
Uma raps on the door sharply, nice dress in tow. The new king feels so bad about everything that he buys them whatever they want and if Uma bought a dress that’s just a little too big, well it’s a good thing Auradon Prep has a seamstress on hand.
The door swings open and, oh joy, it’s-.
“Mal.”
“Uma.”
As much as she hates to say it (not that she ever does out loud), Uma respects Mal. It takes a shit ton of effort to be the most feared kid on the Isle. Uma knows Maleficent is a mean bitch, just like Ursula, and never made it easy for Mal. Plus, once Mal got her head out of her ass, she proved to be one of the best people in getting more kids off the Isle.
And, like it or not, she’s best friends with Evie. Uma will play nice.
“Is your roommate around?” Uma drums her fingers on the hanger which holds her dress. “I’m hoping to get in for a fitting.”
“I think it’s by appoi-.”
“Fitting!?”
Uma perks up as she hears Evie’s voice on the other side of the door and suddenly, her lit up face is beside Mal’s.
“Hi, Evie,” Uma says with a small smile. “Any chance you can fit me in?”
“Of course.” Evie says so graciously and opens up the door to the room. “Come on in.”
This room is the same as what Uma shares with CJ. Open and spacious and soft and making her feel so inferior. Like she’s not meant to touch the plush carpet or the fluffy bed. Like Uma isn’t truly meant to be in Auradon.
But she is. She’s meant to be here. And a lot of it is thanks to Evie.
When Mal’s gang returned to the Isle, Mal looked back with pride and remembered who she was, who she is. Carlos looked back with fear, Jay looked back with excitement.
Evie looked back and saw the problem. She saw the disease and the crime and the pain and she put her foot down to Ben. She demanded more kids, no matter what they had done, to get the same opportunity.
Uma hated to feel indebted to someone on Mal’s crew, but Evie never held it over her. In fact, Evie made her work. Evie sought Uma’s help, Gil’s and Harry’s too, with bringing over more Isle kids. Who needed it first? Whose parents would put up a fight? What did they need?
When she looked at Auradon, Uma felt small and tiny and like she was a charity case, but with Evie, Uma felt like she worked her payment off and showed she should be here.
In a matter of minutes, Uma steps out of the bathroom with the dress on. It’s not a thing she actually cares about, just a way to get to the princess.
(Though, she had tried it on in the store and Gil had said she was beautiful and Harry couldn’t stop staring and Uma felt her face burn under their attention.)
“Up there.” Evie gestures to a little platform tucked off to the side of the room. She is busy cleaning off her desk. “This dress for Audrey is taking longer than I thought.” Evie huffs, but turns to Uma happily and approaches the platform. “Let me see...”
Uma notices the quiet of the room. “No Mal?”
Evie shakes her head. “No, she has extra lessons with Fairy Godmother.”
“It’s just the two of us, then?”
“Mm-hmm. Turn this way.”
Uma grins down at Evie, plot forming already. “You’ve got real talent for this, you know.”
Evie laughs. “The one good thing that came from the Evil Queen, I guess.”
“Well, she made you. So two good things.”
Uma thinks that was pretty damn smooth, but Evie freezes for a moment.
“Relax, princess. I’m just being nice.”
Evie hums and looks up from where she’s pinning the dress. “So...what’s the deal with you and Gil and Harry? You three are still...doing fine?”
Maybe she has an interest in the three of them, Uma hopes. “Yeah. The boys and I are good. They need someone to keep them from killing themselves and I need someone to keep me from killing others.” Uma shrugs. “We’re stronger than ever since we came to Auradon.”
“I understand that. If I didn’t have Mal and the boys with me...” Evie trails off. “I think I would have gone crazy.”
“The Core Four still as tight as ever?” Uma nonchalantly pries.
“Tighter, actually.” Evie smiles as she uses a paper ruler against Uma’s legs. “I mean, we’re learning that other people aren’t so bad. Jay is loving his tourney teammates, Carlos is hanging off Jane like crazy. Mal joined the art club.” Evie sighs fondly. “We’re growing, expanding. But we still have days where we just need each other.”
Uma reaches down and runs her fingers through Evie’s hair. “Well, if you’re ever looking for company, you can come by my room any time.”
Evie, again, freezes. She seems to consider the offer in her head before...
“I don’t know if you and Harry and Gil have like an open relationship or something,” she says boldly, instead of whispering it like some shameful secret in the halls of Auradon Prep, “but I do not.” Evie stands and brushes her hands. “Leave the dress here, I’ll mend it in a few days,” and pushes Uma toward the bathroom once more.
---
Uma and Harry are obviously the most amazing people in the world, but there is a lot Gil likes about Evie. She’s pretty and nice and always says hi to him in the halls. She treats him like he’s smart and knows just as much as anyone else.
“Say it again, Harry. What did she say about me? She really said I was sweet?”
Harry groans and grabs the pillow behind him to place it over Gil’s face, which is residing in his lap. “I struck out, so did Uma. We gotta try again.”
“I’ll do it!” Gil shots up and grins. “She thinks I’m sweet!”
“She also thinks Uma is pretty, but that didn’t help.”
Gil turns to him. “Maybe she was just so nervous-. Shit. I’m late!” Gil scrambles off the bed in a hurry. “I gotta meet Carlos in like 5 minutes for our study session!”
Harry scoffs. “What a waste of time.” Nevertheless, Gil kisses him quickly before he runs out of the door.
Really, Gil doesn’t need to rush. Jay and Carlos are only on the floor below him and Harry. But Gil runs down the stairs and skids to a stop in front of Carlos’ room. He’s about to knock when the door swings open.
"Hi Evie!”
Gil gets that tickling feeling in his stomach. The same feeling when Uma wore her new dress and when Harry wakes up in the morning with bed head.
“Hello Gil.” Evie smiles at him, all warm and sweet and gentle.
“Do you not like Harry and Uma?”
Evie blinks and raises her eyebrows. “What? Of course I do. I’m glad they’re here, all of you. Why would you ask that?”
Gil shrugs and waves to Carlos, who is pacing in the room behind her. “Because Harry and Uma both like you, but they said you don’t seem to like them back. Harry and Uma are pretty great. So are you.”
“Listen, Gil, I’m not really sure what it is you guys have...”
“We all like you and want you to join in.”
Evie’s eyebrows raise even higher. “Wh... What?”
Gil grins and nods eagerly. “Like you and me and Harry and Uma. All of us together. With love and hand holding and stuff.”
“Oh.” Evie turns red and it looks silly when compared with the blue of her hair, but Gil still thinks she looks very pretty.
“Yeah. I know you said no when they asked, but Harry and Uma are great. Do you want date all three of us? Because you’re the prettiest girl Harry and I have ever seen. Except for Uma. Harry’s pretty too. All of you are really pretty.”
Evie bites her lip and tilts her head. She reaches up to cup his cheek. “Oh, Gil. In another universe, I think you would have swept me off my feet.”
He beams.
“But I’m...with someone myself. And it’s not open like you three have.” Evie removes her hand. “You and Uma and Harry all love each other, but she and I...are just us.”
“Oh.” Gil’s shoulder drop. “Well I hope you’re really happy because you deserve to be happy, Evie. And if you ever change your mind, Harry and me and Uma would make you really happy too.”
“I’m sure you would.” She says and smiles at him. “But you have a study date with Carlos. And,” Evie crooks a finger at Gil and he leans closer to her. “Could you make Carlos feel good about himself? He’s meeting Jane’s dad tomorrow and he’s really nervous.” She whispers.
Gil nods. “Anything for you, Evie!”
---
Evie is about half way through the latest issue of Fairest (who would have expected jean jackets to make a comeback?), when she the door opens. She grins. “Hello, beautiful.”
“Hi, babe.” Audrey says as she closes the door behind her and hangs up her jacket. “What have you been up to all weekend?”
“A kind of crazy story, but...” Evie slips off the bed and grabs a wrapped bundle off the desk. “Happy early birthday.”
“It’s not for another two weeks,” Audrey protests, but accepts the gift nonetheless. “You didn’t have to get me anything.”
“I didn’t.” Evie reassures. “Just open it.”
Audrey does so, carefully peeling back the paper and revealing a lovely pink dress. “Evie!” She holds it up and admires the design. “Where did you get this?”
“I made it.” Evie says bashfully, twisting one of her curls. “Do you li-?”
“I love it.” Audrey says, reaching for hand. “This is beautiful.”
“I studied that magazine you like, Enchanted? I got all kinds of inspiration for it.”
Audrey clutches the dress (and oh, it’s so soft!) and pulls Evie to her, kissing her lips. “You never cease to amaze me.”
Evie kisses her again. “I’m glad you like it.”
Together, they find their way to Audrey’s bed and snuggle side by side.
“So...” Audrey says as she kisses each of Evie’s fingers. “Tell me about this crazy weekend?”
Brokengem, I tried to combine a couple different pairings in here and I hope it doesn’t seem too clustered! Originally, this was going to be Evie/Jane (aka, the couple I thought no one had done before), but I know you like Janelos too, so I gave her to Carlos :)
Merry (late) Christmas!
(Upon realising the wand is fake)
