I'm getting a little tired of the slander ging gets for being a 'bad dad'. Yes obviously he's not the greatest father but people literally drag his name through the dirt because he left gon when he was little.
Ging is based off of Buddhist philosophy so Ging leaves everything else behind in search of his nirvana. That's one of the reasons gon isn't pissed or hurt at his father for abandoning him. He wants to go out and see what could be so amazing that would make a man want to leave his own flesh and blood.
However I'm not saying that Ging is totally off the hook I don't practice the Buddhist religion and I bet a lot of Americans don't either so I can see that Ging is flaw in a sense for leaving gon like that.
Even people in the hxh universe knows this! When gon first meets his dad people are confused and angry on how stand offish Ging is being. I believe it's because since the hxh world is so complex and there's many countries and I bet views on religion there that even the people in the anime/manga aren't all going to agree with Ging leaving gon. I'm not saying that Ging freeces is this perfect snowflake of a father but people make Ging to be like hisoka level evil and that's just not fair to his character
All I want to say is that the people who go crazy overboard and calling ging a horrible character and dad is pretty annoying. I just want people to remember that he is based on eastern religion and to chill out a little when it comes to his character.
