The thirteenth day of Solstice

The Mechanicsburg Solstice Festival, that is!

This is the third of three OT3-themed wallpapers that will be part of the "Solstice Series". This one is titled "Ginger Castle" and dated 2015. It is one of my favorite Christmas-themed Girl Genius wallpapers. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. Not only is the OT3 present, but so is the canonical couple, Zeetha and Higgs. Also present are the semi-canonical couples Violetta and Moloch, along with the Rude Mechanicals (the Portable Castle and Wee Beastie). This leaves Othar as the odd man out; but, let's be honest, when isn't he?

Since I promised three OT3-themed wallpapers and this third one, however charming, is more of a crowd scene than an OT3 moment, I'm adding a bonus image to this post, which is, in turn, a bonus image posted to the comic website, on Wednesday, July 25, 2018.

Here we have Tarvek, Agatha, and Gil as peaceful and harmonious as we are ever likely to see them. This drawing was posted to inform the Girl Genius readership that the Foglios were back from San Diego Comic-Con, but that they were too exhausted to post a new page that day. Or, as Kaja put it:

We are now home from San Diego, but we are very tired indeed. Our story will resume on Friday!

When the owner of a flour mill couldn’t attract tourists, he built a Gingerbread Castle next to it. I adore the castle, and every once in awhile it’s reported that it’s been sold and going to be restored, but it never happens. I hate seeing it deteriorate. I don’t know how we navigated those rainbow stairs w/o falling right off, but at the end was the best, where Gretel threw the witch in the fire (once they even showed us what was left of her “bones.")

Another post for today’s #ArchivesHashtagParty, #ArchivesRoadTrip! Here we have some postcards displaying roadside attractions throughout the United States in the early 20th century, including a few odd man-made animals and New Jersey’s famous Palace of Depression, located in Vineland, NJ. Have you visited any of these?

These can be found among the many, many postcards in the audiovisual portion of the John Margolies Collection (Accession 2017.254), which contains ephemera and photographs from Margolies travels throughout North America.
