Sizhui wants to say that he can't believe Jingyi abandoned him to go with Jin Ling to the other side of the country, but he absolutely can. Having to share his cousin with Jin Ling is a struggle he's intimately familiar with, along with Jingyi's proclivity to running headfirst into whatever mess Jin Ling gets himself in. It doesn't ever matter what either he or Jin Ling have to say about it.

He's much less irritated with the whole thing when he find out that Lan Wangji is taking him to meet up with them and that he'll be acting as his and Jingyi's coach while they're at the coast.

He gets to the rink late and skates right over to Jingyi and Jin Ling, who have paused in training to stare at Lan Wangji and Jin Ling's coach under the guise of stretching.

"Hi," he says, then squints. "I thought you said Jin Ling's uncle was his coach?"

"That is my uncle," Jin Ling says.

Sizhui starts counting them off in his head. He's met all of Jin Ling's uncles. Hasn't he?

"He does look familiar," he says slowly. Maybe he just forgot?

Jingyi rolls his eyes. "Yeah, I bet he does. That's Wei Wuxian."

Wait, what? "You're being coached by Wei Wuxian?"

"We're being coached by Wei Wuxian," Jingyi corrects gleefully.

More importantly, "Wei Wuxian is your uncle?"

Jin Ling sighs. "Mother's brother. This really isn't a secret, guys."

Well, he's never heard of it!

"Where is he?" Jiang Cheng asks, hearing the way his voice shakes and not able to do anything about it.

"Don't be upset with him, A-Cheng," she says. Does her voice sound different or is it just all the blood rushing in his ears? "Aren't you happy?"

No. Well, yes, at least she's still - but she's - first and foremost she's his his sister, so - so - so -

Her cold hand on the back of his neck tightens.

"Where is he?" he repeats, forcing himself upright.

Her hand slides off him. She's looking at him, he thinks, she's facing him but the complete blackness of her eyes makes it difficult to know exactly where she's looking.

Why isn't she answering him?

Jin Guangyao had gone back to Cloud Recesses with the procession because he still didn't trust any of this and he doesn't want to let A-Huan deal with it alone. His father doesn't even argue against it, which just makes him more suspicious.

Xuanyu is acting strangely.

By all accounts, his sister is moody and irritable and half mad. She'd refused to speak when she'd been escorted to Koi Tower, watching everyone with dark, hateful eyes that reminded him more of a wild animal than a woman.

Jiang Yanli seems to think that she was just shy and upset, while Zixuan had been too distracted arguing with their father to have any sort of opinion on their sister, but he's not convinced.

She says things she can't possibly know without being told, offhand pieces of Cloud Recesses and Lan Wangji that aren't secrets, exactly, but still aren't things she should know. Not unless someone told her.

"Is it so strange that she asked about the family she was marrying into?" A-Huan asks, his hands gentle as he combs through his hair.

Jin Guangyao leans his head back into him, briefly pausing his movements. "Who would she have asked? The servants didn't tell her anything."

"You can't know every word spoken by every servant," A-Huan says, teasing.

He thinks he can, actually, but there's no real way to prove that. "She's after something."

"Maybe she just wants a good marriage. She's good with Sizhui," he says. "He was so worried about this, no matter how much Wangji reassured him. But she does really like kids."

If she's trying to get Lan Wangji to trust her, going through Sizhui isn't a bad way to do it. He loves his son and hates doing anything that upsets him. She and Sizhui really do seem to be getting along well, and he doesn't imagine that it will take long for Sizhui to start getting upset at his father's coldness to his new step-mother that he adores.

"Stop that," A-Huan murmurs.

He hadn't even said anything!

"Come to bed," he continues, sliding his hand down Jin Guangyao's neck to cup his jaw and tilt his head back. "Worry about things in the morning."

He's worrying about things constantly, but lucky for them both, he is a genius.

He can multitask.

Lan Wangji disrupts his own morning routine for the second day in a row and gets ready quickly, skipping all the tasks he'd normally complete before breakfast to go to the rarely used clearing.

He finds exactly what he had before.

Wei Wuxian leads the Jiang in several sword forms. Jiang Yanli and Jiang Cheng are at the front with all the other disciples behind them. It takes Lan Wangji several moments of observation to notice, but it's clear that Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli are at the front for more than show or just as a sign of their station.

Jiang Yanli is not as strong as her brothers or as many of her clan members. She does the moves slightly differently and Wei Wuxian does not correct her. Several other people are doing the moves as she does rather than as Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian.

Wei Wuxian will break his own form often to go correct or help the other disciples, but Jiang Cheng never does, providing a consistent example for everyone else.

Jiang Yanli is doing the same.

Wei Wuxian is teaching modified moves with Jiang Yanli as an example. They don't require as much power or strength or flexibility, but still complete the sword pattern and strengthen the core. When Wei Wuxian helps one of the disciples that are following Jiang Yanli, he adjusts his own movements to mirror hers, teaching them to do the modified version rather than pushing them to perform the moves as he himself is capable of doing.

The Lans do not modify their clan moves. They are to be done correctly or not at all.

Lan Wangji watches the Jiangs and wonders for the first time if there's a better way to do what they've always done.
