in AMber AU, i wanted nimdok to retain his 'thing' of being somewhat mysterious and having a greater level of knowledge than ted (story, radio drama) or the player (game), but because the pov character is AM, i needed to go higher.

so, i decided he can see a little bit past the fourth wall. he is not aware that he's in a story, but he gets a little bit of knowledge directly from me, the author. he is not just AM's prophet, but mine.

this is why he's the only human character who uses they/them pronouns for amber.

its interesting rewatching american psycho after having become quite a bit more self-aware of my own social awkwardness. i didn't really understand it when i watched it years ago, but now it's so clear as day that patrick bateman is relentlessly awkward. he's fully the guy in a friend group who's only there because it would be kinda rude to exclude him. i'm watching this man blow the most basic of social interaction and believe with 100% confidence that he's nailing it. it's beautiful
