potential prompt: Loid/Yor, 19. "Don't worry, I know what you meant."
(not me ignoring 3 perfectly good revalink prompts to tackle a ship I've never written before lol)
"It's here, it's here, it's here!"
"Anya, if you don't stay still we'll never make it out the door."
Earlier that morning, the residents of 128 Park Avenue awoke to the first snow of the year, a mere smidge of white dusting the streets like powdered sugar. Exciting news for the neighborhood children, who can already be heard playing and hollering outside.
For the Forgers in particular, snow heralds the first winter they'll experience together as a family, and Anya's high energy levels have somehow managed to triple as a result.
"I'm gonna make a snow-Bondman! A reeeeeal big one! Huge!" Anya stretches out her little arms, dodging Loid's desperate attempts to fit gloves on her hands.
Yor titters. "I don't think there's enough snow for that yet, Anya-san."
But Anya is hardly listening: the moment Loid is done dressing her, she takes off with Bond, lingering by the front door and hopping from foot to foot. Loid sighs and shakes his head, looking out the window for the sixth time in the last hour. He hasn't received any special summons, nor does he see anything out of the ordinary outside. Spending some time playing in the snow couldn't hurt, now could it? It might even be beneficial to the mission, so long as he stays alert in case things go awry—
"Is everything okay?" Yor asks kindly, adjusting her own coat and scarf. Black and red as usual, one of the few constants in Loid's unpredictable life.
He fixes a bright smile on his face, tugging on the neckline of his sweater. "A-ah, yes! Was just wondering if my clothes are warm enough for this weather."
Yor looks him up and down, appraising. After a moment, she nods solemnly. "Yes, you look very hot."
The endless traffic of calculations and clever plans that is Loid's mind is brought to a screeching, violent halt. He chokes on his own spit, gaping uselessly as Yor's expression goes from placid to perplexed to utterly mortified.
"I-I mean your clothes look hot on you!" Yor stammers, looking anywhere but at Loid. "No, warm! I meant warm! Cozy, yes! I didn't mean... not that Loid-san is unbecoming in any way, of course! You look very nice always, I just—"
Loid forces himself to breathe out evenly. To slip the mask back on.
A misunderstanding, of course. Naturally. Regain control of the situation, Twilight. Reassure your wife and continue according to plan. This shouldn't have shaken you, it's nothing new. Get it together!
He smiles and opens his hands in a placating gesture. "Don't worry, I know what you meant. Shall we head out?"
Sagging with relief, Yor nods and follows him to the door, her ears a bright red. Anya watches them approach, unblinking.
"Mama and papa are flirting." She says matter-of-factly.
"We're not." Loid chides, ignoring the erratic thudding of his pulse against his temples.
Probably another migraine. Again, nothing new.
Fluffbruary 2023
This file is actually a prompt fill collection! So, for you (and for @fluffbruary), I started a few sentences for the next prompt on my agenda:
The sun had risen somewhere upwards of two million times during Aziraphale’s tenure on earth. He had first seen it over Eden: a golden orb, sending swathes of vibrant color out across the sky to rival the glory of the garden below. And he had watched the breaking of the dawn many, many times since.
(For the WIP Wednesday game — more asks are welcome!)
28. and 40.
From "questions for fic writers"
28. Does anyone read your fics before you post them? If so, who?
That Child of Mine is beta'd by the incredible @louwhose, to whom I owe my undying devotion. I think all my fics except one have been beta read by minimum one person (including my partner once when I was doing a fic gift exchange!) I friggin love beta readers! They are the best people in the universe.
40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?
The thought of posting a fic without reviewing it like 15 times over is incredibly stressful to me. Even reading it over several times I still always find typos lol.
🌹
For every “🌹” received in my inbox, I’ll post one random sentence of a random WIP I’m currently writing.
If anything, it seems some of the princess' words about her appointed knight are to believed; Revali has lost count of how many times the threat of aiming his arrows just shy of the space between Link's eyes has crossed his mind, if only to find a way to cease the man's incessant staring.
12. for the writer meme
What is your favorite theme/subject matter/trope/ship to write about? Why?
I am working on not one, not two, but three novel-length stories that involve Time Shenanigans, and I keep giving myself a headache trying to figure out the intricacies. Favorite theme or masochism? You decide!
Other themes that feature heavily in my work: predestination vs. free will, the virtue of being selfish, unconventional family relationships and/or found family, and characters being snarky assholes. Often all of those at once!
💕 self-love time! talk about which ones of YOUR creations (edits, artworks, fanfics) you like the most then send to other creators to do the same 💕
(forwarding optional)
Aaaaaaa thank you, friend! 💖 This is gonna get messy and lengthy just fyi.
Let's see... I think my two favorite standalone fics to date (that are completed and posted at least) are Treading Water and Fugacious. Both happen to be pieces I wrote for fan events, so maybe those bring something special out of me?
I've talked many times about Treading Water. It's near and dear to my heart because of how many things about it felt experimental — the imagery/water metaphor, my own take on Aryll, using NPCs more, the getting to know someone through traces and impressions (which was the prompt!). It was fun to just follow Revali along from scene to scene as his pride thawed little by little, and everything fell into place so neatly it was almost scary 😅 I remember liveblogging as the word count increased because I simply couldn't believe it! It's still my longest work to date, and while to many 14k is nothing, to me it still is a huge accomplishment. That Aryll lives in my head rent-free with a story of her own, I love her so much.
Now Fugacious... I'll admit, when I saw that my giftee for the Revalink Secret Santa was @ghirahimbo I was a little scared. Steph is a phenomenal fanfic writer, one of the best I've encountered across fandoms, and she single-handedly got me into the ship (and into writing again!), so I wanted to write something to thank her for that. I'd been dying to explore Satori Mountain and its Lord so I figured going with something I truly wanted to write was my best bet! But I didn't really have a plan so I picked the route for the roadtrip and traveled it in-game, taking notes on landmarks and fun tidbits I could use. The problem was I found too many interesting things, so I had to axe a good chunk of them 😭 (RIP to the scene I had planned in Rutile Lake with Link swimming and splashing Revali to tease him). All in all it was a very fun fic to write.
Now, since the ask specifies edits as well and I'm a proud video editor, I'm gonna talk about my favorite MMV! I think we can all agree my best is Mirrors (with Rising Tide as a valiant second best), but today I wanna talk about Crossed Threads.
This fucking video is a testament to my perseverance and love for my wife. It took me four years to complete. Four years. I almost dropped the project it was too much work — I was getting frustrated, my editing skills had morphed and I didn't have the energy to redo old parts, Sony Vegas gave me the middle finger constantly, and there was so much masking. But I pushed through. I told myself over and over it doesn't have to be perfect, just get it done. And I did and I'm fucking proud of it 💪
Here's Tara's reaction at the time since this was a gift for her:
[20:44] Tara: YOU VILLAIN
I LOVE YOU
YOU WHORE OF BABYLON
I was also glad to give some food to the kyomami crew, since this ship is so criminally underrated. So many people thought I used doujinshi when most of the material used here (save for two images) is 100% canonical!!!!! Gah!!! Go read Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Different Story y'all, it's so fucking good!!!! I love these girls to death!!!!!!
Ahem... anyway. That's all.
If you read all this, you're a real one. Here's a cookie 🍪
6 (with "Come Morning Light" & follow-ups) and 14 for the ask game!
6. What’s one fact about the universe of Come Morning Light that you didn’t get a chance to mention in the fic itself?
Oh man I had so many little ideas at the time that I never got to write!!! I guess the most interesting tidbit I could mention is that Link and Revali never outright tell the other Champions + Zelda about their relationship 😅 Some future installments of Meet Me Halfway were going to be from their POV as they figured it out based on (rather obvious) context clues.
I'd say they find out in this order: Mipha (instantly), Urbosa (suspected but needed proof), Zelda (rather perplexed), Daruk (is wrongly convinced Mipha still has feelings for Link so it goes completely over his head, bless his heart).
14. Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer?
I'm not very fond of kidfics at all, but I'll read them if written by someone I trust (like with A Seed of Song 💗). Same with love triangles.
