Experiencing a 枯山水 karesansui Japanese rock garden is a test of restraint. It may be difficult to fight off temptation to pull out the camera and spend all my limited and precious time figuring out how to shoot the garden. Only to be hit with regret later for not living the moment and experiencing the garden in the first place. One of the first things that I do is to take a relatively close up shot of a particular interesting element. The other thing that I try to look for are areas of imperfections. Contemplating the makings of these gardens usually send me off into a whole zen-like mind set. When my wife taps me to take me back to reality, It’s usually okay if I may have missed that perfect shot.
