two surviving brothers of the late ottone ordelaffi. following his death, these two vie for control of the estate with his socially ostracized widow. edelweiss is justifiably afraid of these cunning and relentless brothers, fearing what will be done to her property and her body if she dies alone within the palazzo she still clings to. her final resort is to plead with eubora nunziata to retrieve her only child from the deerwood. eubora relents, but edelweiss dies before orchidee can be delivered to lafossa. the result is a battle of inheritance between orchidee and two dumbfounded uncles she doesnt even remember
