when you get a spec bio junkie into GoB, you get some whack shit like this
miscellanous anatomy lessons with this gangly mutt i guess. Thes is learning to type text on a canvas instead of writing every single fucking thing in its sloppy handwriting, please clap. maybe i'll make one of these for Helen too this was fun to draw
some crude scribbles about monster identity and sentience mirroring
monster "gender" is more of a remnant construct left on by their donor as they are completely sexless, determining only their voice. for this reason non-sentients (don't have human in their genome pool) are often run on it/its pronouns the same way one refers to an animal, and gendered via character on occasion.
"sentience mirroring" is what i call the phenomenon of the talking monsters being copy pastes of their donors and all. after that good 5 years in the facility its safe to say their donors don't define their way of being, more just their template. ban was created before uthman was entirely consumed by his hubris and therefore preserved his former sensible, mellower personality, which gained and lost some additional parts in that time under new conditions. sentients are very prone to some really bad existential/identity crises oof
tried to get a Thought out of my head and then got distracted drawing mouths
bare bones info is that Givanium is ungodly notorious for adding random murderous traits onto husks. such as sharp teeth. they could be created completely toothless and they'd grow in by post-dormancy anyway
ofcourse it doesn't perfectly resemble average carnivore dentition, more just throwing pointy shit around
i know i'm providing like literally nothing about the like the plot or the characters but i am legitimately scared to so you will have your unnecessary worldbuilding and you will LIKE IT /silly (maybe sometime soon i'll work up the courage. idk)
had an old butchered diagram on monster eyes but i decided to dabble in it again. theyre funky
additional notes under cut:
-the nictitating membrane is left majorly unused, as they blink with their actual eyelids, but when feeling threatened/watching something Real Hard they stop doing that and start blinking with their membranes instead as it doesnt obstruct their sight
-see in the dark just great, but their eyes are sensitive to light and sudden flashing can go as far as to temporarily blind them (your sign to take a flash pic in one's face if you're about to get mauled i guess)
-their scleras and secondary pupils glow in the dark
-eyes start off fully green, and it fades out as their body sets everything straight, but some more sloppily made cases don't grow out of their green scleras phase. their dead eyes are also green for a while
-all gvthings produce tears in the same manner as us (and like all land mammals) and serves the same purpose (lubrication, protection from irritants). only sentients have the cognitive complexity to cry emotionally
-Banban can do that white eyes thing because his nictitating membranes are white tinted. as for why... dont ask because i Don't Fucking Know Either He's Just Like That. basically its just this
-the tear ducts arent really that crucially pronounced thats just my artstyle fyi. the eye shape is also just my art being inconsistent. kicks rock
i suppose this is the first givanology post here? i just wanted to draw teeth and i was curious whether the birds' weird beak ridges had a real life-ish counterpart.
their mouths, and flesh/skin in general are green because they have givanium (fictional weird green goop,, i'll go into that later for any of you nongobbers) as blood essentially, like how our flesh is red mostly because our blood is
did i ever mention how much i like drawing teeth. i love drawing teeth.
-though they were only about, the fourth case class to be created, they are the most populous so i felt like doing them first
-all gv creatures share internal mammal characteristics such as internal structure (vertebrates) and endotherm (warm-blooded) body heat, but mammalians are the ones that technically also stay true to it visually
CHARACTERISTICS //
-almost all mammalians are facultative bipeds with a preference for quadrupedal movement, but some are obligate bipeds
-fur is often very thick and plays a huge part in thermoregulation, and with it disabled (say, getting really wet) they can go into shock or just hypothermia. this also goes for avians and their feathers. their body heat averages at slightly lower than ours, about 33-35 celsius (91.4-95 fahrenheit??? im an uneducated european idk)
-characteristics are not taken dead seriously and pretty much all you need to be considered a mammalian is fur and teeth. if a case had, say, 5 digits on each talon or an altered internal plan, they could still easily be considered a mam
-don't think this part needs further explanation
-would mythical creatures count as morphic? probably
(the animal-adjacent example lad belongs to @ratonthemoon)
INTERNAL ANATOMY //
SKELETAL STRUCTURE //
-fairly durable, but they are prone to back discomfort when on two legs (when it comes to facultative bipeds). their spines and hips arent really built for supporting so much of their weight over long periods of time
-eyes face forward
-foreleg distal phalanges mutate into claws
NERVOUS SYSTEM //
-brains are very developed, sentients generating the same level of sapience as a human
-great skin sensory abilities despite their fur. their palms and underside are most sensitive
-have a tickle response lol that belongs here i guess
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM //
-pretty good lung capacity + stamina
-their nostril veil made of thin fur strands also filters out dust and protects their nose from other irritants. they have a great sense of smell enhanced by their jacobson's organ, often while smelling they slightly open their mouths and press their tongues to the roof of it
-sentients can freely form speech with no issue but their vocalizations also include roars, hisses, growls and purring similar to a big cat's (happy motorcycle noises). they may also whine or chirp
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM //
-no notes idk
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM //
-odd, minimalist digestive system mosty just for a more lifelike facade given they don't need to eat or drink
-due to only having a single-chambered stomach and nothing else (lacks intestines, anal opening, liver etc anything else associated with food) their stomach acid has an even lower pH than a vulture's, allowing them to destroy almost any organic material and whatever is truly indigestible is clumped up into an owl-pellet like formation (chemical waste is crammed into this aswell) and hacked up
-due to lacking a liver or anything to neutralize toxins they also have a dramatic defensive reaction to things like alcohol, larger amounts of caffeine, capsaicin, tartaric acid (from say, grapes) etc. in which the stomach cramps together and forces out its contents through their mouths, a generally. not very pleasant experience but effective. they are very hard to actually poison but easy to get sick
-given their acid can burn through most things and their main defense against being poisoned is projectile vomiting, their entire esophagus and mouth is also lined with a protective coating that of their stomachs'
-huskless were the first Givanium-based lifeforms to be successfully created, back when the Project was trying to.. take it easy, in a sense? not dive headfirst into complex organisms and screw something up. necrohuskeds came slightly later in preparation for said complex organisms, taking hold of dead animals. alas both of these were test runs for huskeds (the actual monsters), were all eliminated after designing bodies from scratch picked up, and are considered "extinct" in a sense.
HUSKLESS //
-first actually living being to be created with Givanium, and the least developed for it basically only giving the substance enough structure to make it be able to move and stuff
-not sentient or conscious to any extent, more like some kind of weird supernatural moving fungus
-GV's notorious need to hog and occupy as much physical space it can leads them to grow out their little tendrils, useful for slowly crawling around at best
-they are unresponsive to mostly anything and everything on account of having no sensory organs. blind, deaf, doesn't smell or taste, does kind of feel through its cold rubbery skinstuff, doesn't react to things that would cause pain in a more developed organism or temperature changes
-generally pretty useless to GV studies. they were just there, but atleast it was good to know what was 100% crucial for a lifeform
NECROHUSKED //
-second type to be created, after some ethical debates, and yielded very interesting results
-cognitively changes nothing in the animal, retains intelligence and general conscious, but they lose their instincts to nourish themselves or rest
-appear to operate solely on their nervous, circulatory and respiratory systems, with the other organs becoming still usable if triggered but otherwise vestigial. their digestion becomes obsolete but they can still eat and drink.
-the most interesting part was when they started removing these vestigial organs to see if it would disrupt the prior organic animal. through trial and error they came to conclusion that they can, but this is also where Givanium's tendency to mutate became apparent. aside from that lots of necrohuskeds started to show visual alterations such as sharper teeth and claws, and gigantism.
-meddling together with mechanics learned from huskless and necrohuskeds they eventually managed to pick up huskeds (monsters), lab grown personally designed bodies with unique internal anatomy and animated by GV.
boy let me tell you inspiration comes from weird places, this is based off of an equine dental diagram i found in a "science diagrams that look like shitposts" video
