        “just --- stop talking, yeah?”  words were bitten but held softness, gaze cast down at the floor. expensive shoes scuff at the concrete, knees pressed tightly together with an arm curled around them. chin settled on the small gap of his knees and he breathed out shakily, inhaled slowly. he wasn’t about to cry in front of jamie piper, the kid that carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. the kid that carried the abuse and torment of his older brother.  “i’m fine. i don’t need you to baby me.”

Seth was trying his best to concentrate but it just wasn’t happening. His attention kept being pulled in other directions, away from the book in his hands. A burst of laughter over in the corner. The feeling of having someone looking over his shoulder. The dull ache in his head. Until eventually he looked up only to have his gaze land on a small teenage boy nearby. He eyes locked for a second on the purple bruise over the boy’s eye and his heart stuttered when the boy caught him looking.

Seth gave a rueful smile, lifting a mass of curly blond hair out of his eyes, revealing a matching bruise. ‘Snap.’

 red  hood  drops  lightly  to  the  ground  behind  jamie,  cat-quiet  even  in  his  boots.  the  hood  gets  pushed  back  before  he  speaks,  finally  freeing  his  ears  from  confinement.  ❛  how  are  things??  ❜  he  asks  as  if  he  didn't  just  sneak  up  on  the  kid.  the  'at  home'  comes  implied  at  the  end  of  his  question.  

(  like  he  doesn't  check  up  on  jamie  regularly.  )
