I honestly thought it was not as good as her videos - yes, there was some interesting information, but a lot of it was covered in videos before and I just thought the videos are a bit more engaging. It's not a bad book, but I had higher expectations....

I'm looking for book recs! I want to read a YA/NA book, focussed on or around water, preferably about pirates or maybe sirens (fantasy or sci fi is definitely a plus). It's okay if it's a little dark (no horror tho). I don't really care if it's released last week or 15 years ago. I prefer if it's not a romance book (a romance side story is alright). Do you or your followers have any good recommendations? :)
I checked Goodreads and the few I’ve read that are even close to what you want you’ve already read. Maybe @thereadingchallengechallenge has some ideas? In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan? There are mermaids on the cover... sorry for being no help. I honestly don’t know.

My birthday was nearly a week ago on the 13th, and I only just got back from my vacation yesterday. I'm only just now finding time to respond to everyone's lovely messages - I'm so sorry it took so long! - and I just wanted to say thank you so, SO MUCH for all the wonderful birthday wishes!! I had the birthday week of a lifetime at Disney World, though I can't say I'm not glad to be back home.

I can't say I've had the energy to come up with anything.... I'll just do what I did last year, which is
picking around 30 books from my tbr that I finally want to get to
reading a classic, poetry collection, graphic novel, and book of nonfiction each month
and trying to pick 3 random books from my tbr every other month or so
the last two years I also did/tried to do the beat the backlist challenges, but I looked at the prompts for 2023 and many of them are too specific to help me actually read titles that are on my backlist already... But there's lots of fun prompts there, maybe some of them strike your fancy?
I'm looking for a book that I read 15+ years ago, maybe you/your followers can help me! Children's or middle grade, I think fantasy, MC and other gifted children had to take tests to become task force to infiltrate some school I think. One of the tests was "get across this room without touching the squares on the floor". One kid used acrobatics and another just walked over them because one side was like 1 mm longer so they weren't squares but rectangles. Remember really liking it 😊 thanks!
