hi net! (if it makes you uncomfortable for me to address you w your name, feel free to lmk!) i was about to ask you some dragon-related questions, but i didn't know if you had any developed characters! are there any certain pages/dragons that you'd be a-ok with getting asks about? (just general questions like, what type of blog would ___ run and the like.)
[vibrates]
sorry for taking 2 days to reply! honestly like 90% of that was me just ... forgetting that i had a msg to reply to. sgdq has absorbed my life .w.;
and yes its ok to refer to me by name!! owo ty for asking, aa
and with dragons for questions ... i don’t really have many that are really really really developed or intricate yet but hmm these guys are good and I want to develop them
Boline (Random poor kid who somehow managed to get into an illegal relationship with a princess)
Khanom (The princess)
Majena (One of the members of the Princess’s council, kind of a light flight rep)
Kylligrew (Pirate. Hot mom)
Travel (he’s an OC that started elsewhere. Probably shade-touched, but he also gets rid of other people’s shade infestations?)
Duncan (Ran away from the Viridian Labyrinth when he was almost kidnapped and forced into being a merc)
Mlym (Selkie. dating Duncan and ran away from the Labyrinth with him. She ended up in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, near the border of the Labyrinth, after her egg was stolen from the Frozen Icefields.)
Aerin (Half-Ghost. Like, his mom fucked a ghost. His charge is the concept of Death and he considers himself an arbiter, thinking he gets to decide who lives and who dies. Thankfully, he usually leans towards “lives”.)
Freesia (Fire Witch. We all ignore that she’s from Light.)
Glider (Entomologist who tries really hard to study but he’s such a scatterbrain. we love him anyways)
Inyxise (Detective - Really good at her job, but she’s kind of a goofball.)
Tiff (Was kind of “kidnapped” by Kylligrew’s pirate crew. She was kidnapped from other pirates, though. Pirates living in extremely unsafe places. Kylligrew considered an “adoption for her own safety”. Now Tiff just kind of hangs out with Valerijs, Kylligrew’s “friend with benefits”. She’s a little gay for Freesia)
Valerijs (The dude who ended up taking care of Tiff ((and Freesia)). He’s a black market trader who buys the stuff Kylligrew steals and sells it for profits. He never really agreed to having a kid but he kind of just ended up accepting it.)
Patch (He manages the Farmer’s Market in Onshore and is an excellent trader and businessman, being able to guesstimate the value of various items with ease. Some people in town don’t like him though, because he’s notorious for underestimating the amount of work it took for something to be made.)
Hawke (A thief who tried to steal from Kylligrew, then leaped out of a window, then got saved by Aerin (who happens to be Kylligrew’s grandson, btw).
Xylia (A tattoo artist who’s kind of into ~occult~ things. Also an OC in a different universe, too)
i hope it’s ok to post this publicly!! i just kinda wanna link this post if anyone else asks about lore stuff ;;ww;;
(i haven't looked too much into the fr lore either dw, haha;;) o: who are they “Five Gates of Redemption”? (i can't access fr rn so i don't know if you've written something in your dragons' bios ><;) why do they exist?
Honestly it was kind of a spurr of the moment thing, so it's probably kind of lame-- But the "Five Gates of Redemption" exist for those who, well, seek "redemption". So in order to even possibly atone for whatever crime or other wrong doing they've committed ( or even just turn over a new leaf in general ) they have to go through five battles for each gate.
So in order here's how the gates go;
First Gate tests your mind/intelligence in battle.
Second Gate tests your senses in a battle.
Third Gate tests your speed in battle.
Fourth Gate tests your strength in battle.
Fifth Gate isn't really a battle level but rather a series of tests.
I have dragons for the Fourth & Fifth Gate but not for the rest, I'm still searching.
And the "Fifth Gates of Redemption" really isn't called that but that's what it essentially is. The five are actually called "Protectors of Genesis"-- Which the Fifth Gate is actually Genesis. And Genesis' has a little more info on his post, so you can read it here if you want.
Damn, that's a lotta letters! Under a readmore for length.
A: If you could get away with one murder in your lifetime without any legal, social, or emotional repercussions, would you kill someone?
I don't have a desire to murder anyone, no. Maybe if it was like a hitler-style situation where murdering one person would end something terrible or bring a lot of good to anyone else, but I won't lie, that's a decision I'd have to research pretty heavily and hope for no unintended consequences.
G. Would you rather burn or freeze to death?
Freeze to death. By all accounts burning is an incredibly painful and awful way to go. Not that freezing to death is any better, but hypothermia or the like usually leads to you hallucinating/being out of your mind anyway, so... who knows.
M. If you could have the ability to manipulate matter or energy, which would you choose?
UMMM??? What would either even entail??? I'm honestly not sure, both seem like they'd have pros/cons.
S. Would you rather be the only person in the world that can read minds or have everyone else in the world be able to read minds except for your own?
The former. I mean, there's a ton of literature/movies/etc on reading minds and all the potentially negative things that come w/ you knowing what various people are thinking, but I'd rather be the only person to do so (and hide it, or learn to control it) than be in a society where everyone operates on a completely different level than me.
X. You can eliminate one of your five senses to substantially strengthen the others, which one and would you do it?
Probably... taste? I am not sure how that would heighten my other senses, but like, sure. I dunno. Not being able to enjoy food would suck immeasurably, but losing the sense of smell actually leads to losing the sense of taste, and I would not want to be blind or deaf. And I've read accounts of people who are unable to feel (or at least -- feel pain) and that often leads to them hurting themselves in various ways but being unable to recognize it and then like bleeding out to death. So, erm, taste seems like the safest.
(i feel like i might be overwhelming you with questions so if you feel uncomfortable, dw abt asking me to stop!) ooo! so that's why lydo has all that arcane stuff! does/has the arcane energies harm lydo? did it ever affect his growth from a hatchling to an adult? since it's drawn (if i understood that right!) to lydo, does/can the energies affect other dragons in the lair too? (this is rly neat!! tysm for sharing ( /)v( ))
No no, it's cool! :D I love the questions, it keeps me going! I tend to create a lot more content as I go with an active dialogue going on, so it really helps! I've been a little stagnant the last few months, so I'm enjoying it. If I DO happen to burn out and stop replying, it'll only be so I can save the note in my askbox for later. C:
I'd say other than making him look extra beefed compared to his actual physical weight, the energy has twisted his mind just slightly over the years. There are moments where his morals slip a little and his better judgement becomes questionable. He once left the clan for days on end in order to claim a small Fey for his studies, and he was dead set on breeding with her some day as part of his work, set on studying the effects between them in their potential offspring. This was not something that he would consider romantic, as he raised her from a hatchling and kept her hidden from the rest of his clan for many months. Only when he realized she was not so perfect as he wanted for his work did he let go and send her away to another clan of... equally dark studies.
Also, the energies have affecting him in some ways physically, altering some of his physique and facial features, flattening and broadening his face compared to the slightly longer muzzled breed (for one example). The fact that Tundras already have one of the shortest faces make his even stranger. Even when he's in his original quadrupedal form, his face is someone reminiscent of a human's (Or rather Serthis/Meran/Dunhoof).
As he's aged, one of his first and strongest skills was to alter his own form further, becoming fully bipedal--Which he refers to as being an "Upright Tundra"--and gradually changing over time by the study of Ancient human relics and taking cues from the anatomy of some species of beast clans. Nearly all of his everyday life is spent in this form and he admits only to himself that he considers it his true form, as he is more comfortable with it than being as he was born. Not that he minds it, but it's just not what he prefers anymore. The only time he shifts back to his original form:
Attempting to make a visiting dragon more comfortable with him.
Traveling long distance and needs a different pace.
If he has trouble sleeping.
If a potential mate was too nervous about being intimate with his bipedal(upright) form.
And YES! The energies around him and especially those in his studies and living chambers are a little rather active with energy. A bit like radioactive dust, actually. Any time he goes out traveling or is outside roaming the clan territory, he comes back with a coating of dust on his fur, and it tends to be a great deal of arcane energy left over from eons ago, and charged flecks of pillar that float about a little of everywhere. He has even found "Pillarbits" stuck between his toes on more than one occasion. lol
The dragons that are most notably affected by him, thankfully, are usually those also from Arcane flight. The little troupe of hatchlings that he's raised and that frequently keep him company are all mutated.
Lilla the Spiral: Was his first "acquisition", which he adopted on a whim one day when, uh, his fatherly urges kicked in without warning and he wanted something small and cute to hold, spoil with affection and to protect. (Lydo has many Guardians in his lineage.) Though Lilla is from Shadow, she was affected very strongly by his energies; she is most often wrapped around his shoulders and neck, hidden in his mane like a little snake. She has absorbed so much powerful emotional energy that it stunted her growth within a few short days, as Lydo was not as in control of his energy at the time. She barely speaks, if ever, shares his meals with him and is more akin to a beloved familiar than a fellow dragon. He knows that his love has ruined her for being anything more, and thus he keeps her with him more often than any of the other hatchlings. She loves him unconditionally, trusts him completely, an will often only make her presence known if she senses something strange in his behavior. If she has any ability, it is a powerful form of Empathy to him. (Those are the majority of my headcanons for her, though I may build more on it later.)
Shuesha the Tundra: A talkative and inquisitive hatchling, Lydo was yet again traveling in the lands of his birth when he found the chance to adopt the pretty little girl. His heart melted quickly and he imagined that she might grow to become a wonderful helper in his library. Unfortunately, in one of several accidents that would eventually take place in his study, she decided to try and use his Archivist's Spellscroll like pretty drawing paper. And as Lydo uses the scroll for storing his charms, various magics and specific thoughts and energies, the result was something akin to a time-halting enchantment. He currently has no idea how to undo it properly, as she managed to cross-spell herself, and with what else, he's not entirely sure. She's very sweet and loves to converse, ask him countless helpful and inventive questions, but she can be overwhelming at times, she she is often sent to be tended by the clan's hatchling-tenders. Lydo would often consider her his muse, as she has given him many good ideas while happily chattering away about things.
Oort the Snapper: Oort was a hatchling specifically sought out by Lydo for research. Plus he was pudgy, burpy, jabbered, blabbered and drooled bubbles in a way that was so bizarre and strange to Lydo, he was beside himself with adoration. Oort was also a goofy little boy that tumbled around excitedly in a way that reminded Lydo of himself when he was very small and stupid. He took him home quickly, hiding him in his study and chambers once again. By this point he was worrying some of his clanmates with the growing number of hatchlings he was gathering--being a single, often irresponsible single male with no parenting experience and a sad history with his own hatchlings--and once more, there was an unexpected accident in his study. He'd only left Shuesha and Oort alone for a few minutes to collected a delivery from a messenger, and came back to find the study filled with bubbles that wouldn't pop, scrolls and potions spilled everywhere, Shuesha screaming at the top of her little lungs in a cabinet, and Oort was floating around the room, chewing on scrolls as if they were leaves. Clearly hungry, he had managed to consume most of a youth scroll Lydo was working on as well as many others that were intended to do such things as make various colorful displays for entertainment purposes. As a result, Oort does not speak, nor does it appear he understand most of what anyone tries to tell him. His attention span is "goldfish-123-crackers" at best, and he tends to enjoy just floating around a room blowing spit bubbles and making cute squealing newborn hatchling noises. He enjoys food, anything he perceives as food, and will bite if not fed with caution. Whenever in the company of Lydo in his Study or being walked through halls, a string is often tied to his tail to keep him from escaping to float away into the unknown. Even though it seems Oort is capable of steering himself, he's not capable of socializing in any way to express that he can, and his behavior is a little too erratic to know his motivations for much of anything beyond his basic needs. Lydo has since forgotten most of his original plans for Oort in his studies, since he was originally intended to become a vessel for arcane energy to help him study the long-term effects on another subject other than himself. Oort is just a little too tainted by spells and charms to get any proper kind of results from. As such, he's mostly a playtime companion and goofy little brother to the other permanent hatchlings.
!! thank-you for answering my question! ^-^/ do you keep track of all your dragons' sizes or just a few (for plot reasons?)? does a dragon's size ever hinder their magic abilities? (if you have more than one dragon who has magic!)
Ohhhhhhhh goodness, you are positively brimming with awesome questions. I LIKE YOU. ♥ :D
I am sort of lazy about the details to my dragon's magic abilities, and since this post I saw yesterday, it triggered a bunch of new ideas for me that would fill in some gaps I've been neglecting, or dragon abilities that I've been iffy about.
And I do try to keep notes about every dragon's size - it does/can/will play at least a small part of a dragon's role in my clan eventually, magic or not.Lydo specifically, since he is very long (tall* for the form he usually takes) he is oddly buff for being literally one of the absolute lightest tundras in my entire lair! But I have turned my old 'faux pas' into a fun mutation. When he was younger, traveling around a while as a hatchling growing up, he absorbed a rather large amount of arcane energies, and he seems to be a strong conduit for it, rather like a beacon. And the reason he stays in Earth flight- *KHULEBOROUGH/ LYDORUNE PLOT SPOILERS*
is the fact he's still absorbing it... from the original destruction of The Pillar. He's instinctively drawn to Dragonhome because of the Ancient fragments in the soil, scattered across the land. The fragments, the dust, the radiation from the Arcanist's presence and magic and even remaining traces of the Shade's presence when it returned. Though most of his work in the clan is of a rather mundane nature--teas, smoking herb blends, potions, lotions and more*wink*-- he has secret work that he keeps from most other dragons. There are very few that have any idea what research he's really getting into, or even what he's found in the ancient tunnels of the clan.
And over the months, he's been working towards a way to keep his work private, safe from the prying eyes of his clan. It's why he's collecting so many arcane runestones, mystical shards, manaweed and anything else that absorbs energy like he does. You see, Lydo's wings are small, and it's difficult for him to fly and carry his weight long distance. He walks, as he always has, traveling around as many of his Wind ancestors have done, but that's difficult to visit his friends in distant clans, and dangerous. But when he's strong enough, he can levitate... which is a skill he has not showed to anyone. And with his understanding of this ability, he has learned to cause many other things to do the same, for extended periods, and under the control of his will. And he can do it with anything. Plants, animals... huge chunks of solid rock......
