ngl, thinking about doing a self-insert character *now*, I could probably make for a neat one-scene expositor or, optimistically, an eccentric recurring character. 16-year-old me wouldn't know how to do half of the stuff that 30-year-old me does daily.
In a genre dominated by 16 year olds, the prospect of writing a self insert as a grown-ass adult is almost funny enough to justify how much work it would be. Like just the different perspective an adult would bring to this genre. "Ok, so there are monsters, but at least I don't have to worry about rent. Sure I want to go home but when I go home, I have to go to work again, so...." Especially in the parts of the game where the designated Old Man is not around, so you yourself get the joy of being the random guy in his thirties trying to keep up with those chaotic kids.
