In honor of valentines day, I made some art of some of my favorite Vesperia ships! If I get more free time, I'll add more. I'm just happy to have finished some on time this year.

Join me for Flynn February!
For every Friday and Sunday during February, I'll be sharing a Flynn Scifo post whether it's a blurb about the character or just a screencap! There may be the occasional short essay or analyzing one of Flynn's relationships with another character, etc, but overall, this is not a serious event.
This is not a fanweek, but I'm more than willing to share Flynn-centric fanworks if you decide to make something! As is, I do plan on sharing Flynn fanfics to spread the Flynn love (LOL). Going off of this, if you want to add something to Flynn February, go for it! I'd love to see and share it!
But wait, why not Scifo Saturday? Why just Friday and Sunday?
I figure Saturdays tend to be busy for people. From an event-perspective, it'll give me a buffer if I don't have something prepared for Sunday. As I mentioned earlier, I don't intend to make this event too serious as it's just something to shill Flynn and block out some negativity surrounding his character.

Here are the days I intend to post for Flynn February:
1 (Sunday)
6 (Friday)
8 (Sunday)
13 (Friday)
15 (Sunday)
20 (Friday)
22 (Sunday)
27 (Friday)
28...? (Saturday)
Raven's alternate identity, Schwann All-Terrain
Sorry, Commandant, you've inherited a lotta lousy problems.
I can see postgame Raven candidly confessing to Flynn all the crimes he committed under Alexei's orders, and then some. Perhaps wanting to be punished, or found horrid, worthy of derision-- but, save perhaps a couple of pained expressions, Flynn quietly takes it all in and chooses to shoulder the burden, too. He's the new Commandant, after all, and he needs to know what's gone wrong so he can start making it right.

i've been playing tales of vesperia a lot
the last time i drew tota fanart was over 15yrs ago :v
Decided to finish up some art done on bases as a warm-up. These were just so cute, I had to use them!
Took me so long to complete, you can literally see my style changing a bit and more confidence in Flynn's hair and armor lol

https://old.reddit.com/r/tales/comments/1qb47mj/vesperias_secret_ritas_halfsister_and_their_father/ Thoughts?
This may be an uninteresting take, but my thoughts generally boil down to "I don't care."
TL;DR I'm not convinced it's canonical fact, and it doesn't interest me enough to want to interpret it that way regardless.
For every piece of evidence, it's equally possible to interpret in a way that just means Rita met Hermes at some point. If I thought them being blood-related was a compelling plot point that improved their characters, I'd be happy to follow these threads into the convoluted mess that is the implied backstory.
But, in a game all about friendship and found family, I just don't find it interesting to interpret them as actually being blood-family all along. That's not even getting into the questions it opens about, "Wait, does that mean Rita is half-Krityan? How do human/Krityan genetics work anyway?"
Who are their mothers in all this? Vesperia doesn't give much information about anyone's parents, but if there's a complicated web of betrayal in which Hermes abandoned his toddler in Temza to go have an affair in Aspio (Judith would have been 4 when Rita was born, so more like 3 when Hermes left) and then Hermes fathered another child, and then abandon that child, too, to return to Temza, and the mother in Aspio is never mentioned at all.... I kind of want to know literally anything at all about the women involved in this.
Sure, this sordid love affair is plausible, but an Occam's Razor explanation of, "Hermes tutored a young Rita briefly while researching in Aspio. He left his stuff behind and Rita later took over his house," is sure a lot simpler. If them being related interested me, I'd be willing to connect all the threads for an elaborate backstory, but I much prefer the story without that plot point, so I'm not.
Another comment in that reddit thread mentioned that the JP voice actresses for Rita and Judith were asked about them being sisters and neither of them had ever heard of that theory before, so if them being secretly related was all that important to their storylines, I really feel that the director would have, y'know, told them about it. As it is, it feels a lot less like "This is deep canonical lore that explains so much" and more like "This was an idea one or more of the writers floated but it never went anywhere and had no impact on their characterization."
I first heard about this theory over ten years ago, promptly said, "Huh! Could be interesting, but probably for the best they never confirmed that." I think one of the light novels got an English translation recently and that's why I'm suddenly seeing it pop up a lot?
In regards to the LNs, a) I've seen the quotes that allege to prove it, and remain unconvinced and b) even if so, I think I've been pretty clear over the years that I treat light novels/comics/anime/etc as their own canons. There are enough discrepancies between the game and its expanded universe to make trying to conceive of all of it as one holistic canon an exercise in frustration, so I don't.
If them being half-sisters by blood is compelling to you, there's certainly room in canon to write them that way if you wish. I'm not going to tell anyone they can't do that. But you can safely assume that in anything I write, they aren't related.
I'm a bit sleepy right now so I'm sorry if any of this came across more terse than I intended.

I talked about this on Discord the other day but I want to make a proper post about it.
So recently I was scoring all the settlements in Terca Lumireis on a rubric of factors that would go into whether I'd want to move there (as one does). One of those factors was the government/political system of a town. For example, Heliord scored a 1 because the entire city is just a scam to abuse commoners.
When it came time to score Dahngrest, though, I gave it a much lower score than I expected before thinking about, and probably lower than most people would expect, too. Dahngrest - and the Union in general - is presented in the story as the positive alternative to the Empire. These are the people who broke away from the tyranny of the empire and set up their own society, where they rule themselves. They're free to decide their own paths in life.
Except... when I thought about it from the perspective of "What if I was just some random guy who lived there?" it didn't actually look that great.
Who has power in Dahngrest? The Five Master Guilds. This consists of:
Fortune's Market (the merchants, who have a near-total monopoly of shops all over the world)
Ruin's Gate (excavators of blastia, meaning they have significant control over the world's power supply. And of course, as we later learn, they're affiliated with Leviathan's Claw, the arms merchants)
Soul Smiths (blacksmiths, manufacturers of metal goods including weapons)
Blood Alliance (mercenaries)
Altosk (as best as I can tell, their domain is just to be the government? Diplomats?)
Ok. So take away the label 'guild' and consider that these are organizations that - except for Altosk - are engaged in producing, buying, and selling goods or services. These are companies. Kaufman is even referred to as the president. It's just an oligarchy where all the power is held by the leaders of the wealthiest companies.
So as a random person who runs away from Zaphias to become a guildsman, how can I achieve freedom and power and a voice in my government in Dahngrest? By joining a guild and... working hard... getting promoted.... Hold on, that just sounds like what my options already are in the real world to work my way up a company.
And what if the guild you join isn't one of the master guilds? Are you just out of luck if you want to have any sort of say in the laws or policies of your home? And then what happens when the current leader of Altosk dies, and the Union needs a new leader? Surely in the Union, where people specifically went to be free of the monarchy, there would be some manner of democratic -
No, wait, it just passes to the Don's eldest grandson. The Union has just re-invented the hereditary monarchy. The only difference between Dahngrest and Zaphias is that the oligarchs in Zaphias have longer lineages, while in Dahngrest you're being rules by business owners.
What did Kaufman do to deserve a leading voice in the conference at Aurnion that decided the fate of the world? She's the president of a major company. That's all. And honestly it's suspicious that Fortune's Market has eliminated practically all competition both in the Empire and out. She's probably no better than Jeff Bezos. I don't want to live in a city state where Jeff Bezos gets to decide the laws by virtue of being the best businessman.
I’m about half way through Tales of Vesperia, like the others in the ‘Tales of’ series, it scratches the jrpg itch with a side of cute and charming. Thrown into an adventure, travel around the fantasy map, picking up a new companion in every city, with a different connection to the story, starts off on a personal quest and get caught up in major world politics, you know the type. I love the absolutely platonic and non romantic friendship between the two main characters, it’s giving mlm and wlw best friends, but I might just be projecting.
